Lockdown, the new norm until further notice has presented us with interesting challenges but I am here to share tips on how to celebrate a birthday in lockdown. Whilst these tips won’t involve 5* restaurants or retreats, it has plenty of useful tips that you can utilise as we learn how to celebrate a birthday in lockdown aka confinement.
As someone who just celebrated her birthday in confinement, I thought of a few ways one can still have a good birthday. Thanks to Moonpig for sending me a hamper full of goodies that I can enjoy at home during the lockdown. As a reader of A July Dreamer, you can also get 40% off on Moonpig once you download the Moonpig app. Use the code APPFREEWGIFT (only works on the app) and get a free card when you buy a gift.
How To Celebrate a Birthday in Lockdown
Being stuck indoors thanks to the lockdown doesn’t mean you can’t have fun on your birthday. Over the last few months being in confinement, we’ve had to make do with what we have. We celebrated birthdays in more different ways than I thought possible and it has been absolutely incredible. If, like me, you need help with your big day then read on how to celebrate a birthday in lockdown.
Zoom parties were not a thing at the beginning of the year but they are the thing to do as lockdown continues. Back in May when we had officially settled into the lockdown lifestyle, we held the first zoom parties with my gym girls and it was the best thing ever. Not being in the same room wasn’t an issue because we were able to connect via Zoom and chat as if we were next to each other but safer.
Socially distanced picnics
I never thought I would ever go on a socially distanced picnic but after months of not seeing friends and family, it was nice to see them outdoors in a socially distanced manner. The beautiful thing about picnics is you can easily set them up, can see each other and enjoy the weather (except if you are in the UK). A picnic is also cheaper than going to a restaurant, you can make the foods at home or buy a few nibbles and relax.
This is something new as well, but its something that I have been loving loads over the last couple of months. On my birthday I had a Netflix party with a few friends and we watched some of my favourite movies and were able to comment on the movies as we watched them. It was a new experience that I highly recommend and can not wait to do again as it made my birthday that much more special. If there is something I love doing when I am home it’s watching Netflix and catching up on all the Korean and Chinese series that I am into.
Everyone who knows me knows that I am a sucker for personalised gifts, especially personalised mugs, beddings and engraved jewellery. In my home, most of my own gifted presents are personalised including some of the Champaign bottles. Personalised gifts are personal by nature and allow the recipient to really feel special. In the past, I have ordered personalised mugs for my family on special occasions from Moonpig including flowers and chocolates.
Moonpig is a brand I trust and have used for many years and for this year we’ve had 4 birthdays so far and all the flowers and cards have been from them. I can depend on the brand to delivery what I ordered when I specified when placing the orders but I am yet to use the Moonpig app.
Ever since we went into lockdown, I have found myself creating home spa experiences every single week. It’s not something I had time for before but now I can do as often as I please in the comfort of my own home. You can create your own at-home spa experience by wearing a beauty face mask, doing your nails, having a long bath and maybe create your own afternoon tea and just enjoy your birthday.
Celebrate your birthday alone
This is something I have done many a time and I have enjoyed spending my birthday alone doing things that I love. Last year, I went to the island of Jersey alone and had the best time ever, took everything at my own pace. During the lockdown, most of us have had no choice but to spend a lot of time alone including birthday. Whilst a birthday is a special day that should be celebrated, you don’t need to be out clubbing or at fancy restaurants to enjoy it. Being comfortable being on your own is a skill that many people need to acquire, I am at peace with being alone at times including birthdays.
