Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing 🤨
1988 - 9 months, (Chililabombwe, Zambia) although my mother looks tired and traumatised😟, I know I was loved and happy.

{Fashion Monday} Rock of Ages

Rock of Agesrock of ages

Rock of AgesRock of Ages

Rock of Ages, a musical film starring the likes of Tom Cruise, made me cringe as he sang. I must confess I actually hadn’t seen the movie in full just his rendition and I was done. There are some actors that you just prefer in certain roles and never in others and that’s Tom Cruise for me. Whilst Rock of Ages is a musical film title for me it’s something completely different.

It is…

Rock of Ages is a song we sing at church that somehow wouldn’t leave my mind this weekend. Not sure why but I have been humming it more and more each day and makes me calm somehow. Over the weekend we had our annual Zambian community trip to the coast and this year it was Somerset. Whilst I have heard of this English city I have never actually been nor knew it was down south. It took me a little over 4 hours to drive down from mine on a Friday.

Rock of Ages

When we arrived down in Minehead it was already bed time, we checked in and slept. When Saturday arrived, the weather wasn’t particularly beach worthy but we went anyway. We all dressed with bikinis inside just in case it cleared up but as luck would have it, it didn’t. Never a bunch to be disappointed we drove to Pollock and explore the stony mini beach there. It started to rain a bit so we left and went to Watchet with clouds coming in. The marina wasn’t the prettiest but the town was small and quaint. We strolled around whilst our parents and elders shopped all the charity shores they could find.

An hour had passed before we left Watcher for Minehead where again our parents did more shopping. Minehead and surrounding villages are places where our parents would really appreciate as retirement places. Well at least that’s what they all talked about throughout the journey.

If I could sum up the weekend in a few words I would say it was an epic trip. Not only did we celebrate ShyGirlBlog96‘s 21st birthday we also enjoyed the company of our elders and parents. These days it’s rare to have such an opportunity to spend time with the elders and hacken until their word. I always make it my point at such occasions to steal some words of wisdom and try to lead a good life.

I love that you paired white shoes with that black outfit. Ballsy but it works! I’m a monochrome girl so this outfit is giving me life! On another note: every day is indeed a school day. Until I read your post, I always said Zamibian. Lord, do I feel stupid now….

I go to an Episcopalian church. We are all about singing multiple hymns per mass. I have never heard anything from Rock of Ages.

We don’t sing the old hymns much in church anymore, but I grew up with Rock of Ages. Now its sweetly playing in my mind. Thanks for that beautiful reminder.
