How do you dress for fall? What kind of style have you gravitated towards this season? I am all over the place during fall and winter but bottom line I am always warm. How-to dress for fall can be as easy as 1-2-3 or as hard as you make it. It all depends on your personal style and what you feel comfortable in. I am a huge advocate of dressing for comfort and make no bones about it. For me if you’re comfortable in your own skin and your outfit everything else comes second.
I always put this disclaimer forward that “I am no fashionista” but that hasn’t stopped me yet. Fashion Fits Fall, we are all unique because we are different and have personal preferences. I don’t have to look like the models in magazines or on tv and if you do that’s great for you. For me it’s about “Not comparing myself to the next person” but rather “loving me for me”. With that being said, here is how-to dress for fall
How-to dress for Fall
The weather has been getting colder by the day and even more so at night. This has prompted me to share ways I am keeping warm this autumn. You don’t have to purchase a new wardrobe but adding a few pieces wouldn’t hurt either.
Layering skirts and dresses over tights or leggings
Those who know me know how much I disliked layering with a passion. But over the years I have found items that I can layer easily without it seeming like I have layered. If you’re a skirts or dress kind of person then continue wearing your summer dresses just add tights. And if you’re wanting to continue wearing your cocktail dresses then add a lovely denim jacket or a belted Mac jacket.

Boots with Jeans
I am a sucker for jeans and always dress in them whenever I am running errands. This autumn I am wearing more jeans paired with boots than dresses or skirts. I find jeans easy to dress and easy to style up or down depending on the occasion. Skinny jeans are my favourite kind then boyfriend jeans which you can pair with trainers and a hoodie. To finish off the skinny jeans with boots outfit you can pair with a leather jacket and scarf.
Mix and Match
Though I rarely mix and match my clothes I do like mixing and maxing during the autumn. Autumn is all about the contrast in colours, it’s summer turning into winter. You’re in the middle between the warmer and colder months. For winter most gravitate towards darker colours this happens also when the weather gets colder in autumn. So why not pair your dark colour outwear with a bright coloured top. I also love mixing and matching not only colours but patterns too.
Accessories with scarves and hats
I love wearing scarves throughout the year, they are so versatile and goes with practically every outfit. You can wear them for practicality or for fashion, it’s all up to you and how you make them fit for purpose. I love chunky scarves for autumn and winter to keep me warm but stylish at the same time. Light scarves are mostly for summer or warmer autumnal months. When it comes to hats, you can wear whatever suits your fancy, I personally prefer beanies. I find them easier to work into an outfit and rarely mess my hair up so they are first choice for me.
And there you have it, ways on how-to dress for fall season and look stylish at the same time. You don’t need a new wardrobe just repurpose your summer clothes and mix in your winter items too. How are you dressing this season? What style are you gravitating towards this season?

Having grown up in the Pacific Northwest, I found that I loved layering clothes. It doesn’t always work so well in North Carolina, but that’s definitely a tip I support.

I thought I was doing OK, until last week when I got really really cold. And I realised it really was hat and scarf weather, so dug them out and felt so much cosier. I’ve been layering a lot, which I usually finds works well, especially if I’m going to be inside then outside a lot. Loving that my boots are getting worn again.

Honestly, ever since I got my daughter all I want is to get warm and I totally ignore how I look. I put layers and layers and walk like a penguin! But getting warm doesnt mean getting ugly! I have to start finding a matching jacket, hat, scarf and gloves for this winter!
Anosa says
I am with you there, I am all about keeping warm but as you said keeping warm doesn’t mean getting ugly. There are pieces we can pull together and make a cute outfit and still stay nice and warm

I love layering in the winter. You need to when its so cold I love adding a jumper over a tunic top when I’m wearing leggingsfor example.

I could picture how lovely that would look, I am more of a jeans, leather jacket and jumper kinder girl 🙂
Terri Ramsey Beavers says
I think leggings look great layered. Wearing alone, not so much, lol. I love layering my clothes especially when traveling and I’m cold, hot, depending on where I am. I can shed some things that way. Plus, layering just looks great.
Anosa says
That’s so true, you can always shed if you’re too warm and also agree on wearing leggings alone. If I ever do its with a long time that covers my backside
Joanna @ Everyday Made Fresh says
Living in Florida we totally layer! Most mornings it’s chilly and by lunch time it’s 80 degrees during this time of the year.
Sarah | The Urban Wanderer says
Definitely agree with layering! Although mine are more of the fleeces and gillet type with double Buff to keep my neck warm on my cold morning walks. I’m also a fan of wearing two pairs of socks too. (Yes, I am really that cool!) 😉 I did see fleece lined leggings recently, which I think could be perfect for very cold days tucked underneath my jeans.
Anosa says
Ooooh I am slowly breaking into my gilets but not owned a fleece in a while now. I too don’t mind wearing two socks, I have done it before
Melanie Edjourian says
You are so right with the layering. It is so cold the extra clothes are more than welcome to stay warm. I love to wear warm boots first thing on the school run as my feet freeze otherwise.
Anosa says
I have cold feet naturally so I am always having them nicely covered up and warm boots are my go to footwear
Amber says
I have done the boots with jeans before! Normally I’m just in jeans and sweaters or long sleeved shirts and my sneakers though. I’m all about comfort since I’m usually racing around getting errands done.
Anosa says
I love jeans and sweaters though rarely pair them with trainers as I am yet to master that look 🙂 so normally I pair with ankle boots
