Business as usual in the corporate world

Business as usual is my mantra every weekday and then hello baby weekend for some getaway time.

I have been in the corporate world now for around 4 years so not too long. I first got a taste of working in the corporate world when I did a 15 month placement at a blue chip pharmaceutical company whilst finishing my degree and let me tell you from day one I knew where I wanted to work. There are so many stories out in the press about people giving up their stressful corporate jobs and just dropping everything. I did touch a little bit into this when I shared the “Travel Blogging: From Dream to Reality” and as much as it might be the case for some people there is still those of us who still love working in the corporate world. As MOH would say you’re lucky that the degree you studied for is what you are doing and you’re working in. I know working in the corporate world is not the same for everyone, it can be stressful, demanding and cutthroat but there also companies out there that are investing in their employees. Most companies have deployed the “flexi-work” environment which for my previous company meant you can start work anytime before 10am and finish anytime after 4pm so essentially you start early you finish early.

Flex-work for some also includes remote working aka working from home or anywhere with Internet. I have (with permission from my boss) worked one time in another country, this is part of flexi-work and provided you’re actually working then most employers are happy to employ this system. There are times when not everyone can meet in one office or place and sometimes have to conduct “virtual meetings” which is very common these days. The beauty about most companies these day is that if you do not have local offices in certain cities you could always book an office or conference room and go about your business. What I love the most is that there companies almost all the services your company needs from office hiring meeting rooms, hosting virtual meeting facilities to lunch areas so your employees can move from working hard to having amazing lunch in a close by eatery.

The corporate world has come a long way in the last gazillion years, it’s no longer the typical 9-5 day in the office only but everywhere and anywhere there is good internet and phone connection then you’re good to go. I know stresses are there and I will not deny it, I believe if employees are given favourable working conditions especially to those with kids makes for a productive team.

Do I wish for a job outside the corporate world, honestly NO. I have reasonable flexibility in my working life as I need and I love it and do not plan on changing it anytime soon.
