Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing 🤨
1988 - 9 months, (Chililabombwe, Zambia) although my mother looks tired and traumatised😟, I know I was loved and happy.

Monthly {2016} May Goals

I am sat here thinking, where has the last four months gone? I can not believe I am already sharing my May Goals and before you know it we will be recapping on how 2016 was. It is crazy to think just months ago I sat in my apartment thinking of what I wanted to do and accomplish in 2016. I feel as a blogger I am slowly growing and evolving on a daily basis, sometimes I sit and look at some of the posts I shared when I started blogging and I honestly surprised at how much I have changed. I know some bloggers go back to the older posts and update them, I try not to update them or change anything in my old posts maybe except for broken links as I feel that’s the only way I know how far I have come in this blogging world.Every month when I am setting my goals, I try to go back to the previous month and see if I have accomplished anything I set. I will be honest from the start and say April was just not my month, I was not really motivated to blog as often as I would like and that just put a dumper on my mood as I love blogging but that didn’t stop me from sharing a couple of posts with you my lovely readers.

So as not to get lost in the mix, here are the goals I set for April 2016 before I share what I am thinking for my May Goals.

{2016} APRIL GOALS

  • Improve monthly views – January page views were just under 17k views (over 8k visitors + 1.3k comments) my usual is 7K a month, this has been an achievement in its own and I would like to improve this if not double it. FAILED – I was not motivated to do anything blog related so it affected my page views but that’s ok, I can just work on improving my monthly views in this new month.
  • Approach potential sponsors – I work with lots of PR companies which is awesome but I want to improve the blog earnings even more that is why I want to start approaching potential sponsors that fit with my blog. instead of sitting on my hands and waiting on them to come to me. FAILED – I was fortunate enough approved me but I have not yet had the courage to approach them.
  • Savings – this month I would like to start putting some money aside for the future, I know I am a spontaneous person and live day after day but I have set some plans in motion for the future which rely on having some reserves so makes sense to start putting that together now than later. PARTIAL SUCCESS – I am slowly working on this so I am excited.
  • Travel – I am traveling to Oslo, Norway in 2 weeks and Seoul, South Korea in 4 weeks so I want to make sure I get all my documents and cases packed in advance instead of waiting until the night before. I know even when I pack in advance I will still unpack and repack the night before but I want to get some items for my friend in Korea now rather than later. SUCCESS – I was able to pack for both trips a day before the respective flights. I managed to pack all that I needed.
  • Make time for friends – I am quite bad at this, I prefer spending time alone at home. When I am not blogging I am either sleeping or watching TV there is no in between but I need to make an effort and spend more time with my friends instead of just lazing around alone when I am not traveling. SUCCESS – I was able to meet up with my friend Melissa, I went on a girls getaway to Oslo with my two girl friends and one of my besties came to visit me for the weekend which was awesome.
  • Me time – even though the above point would sound like I have loads of me time it is not the case, fellow bloggers will appreciate that the time allocated to blogging does not count as me time since there is so much going on in the background. When I am blogging I probably have 20 tabs open and I am flicking back and forth, this is not relaxing nor considered me time. I need to schedule me time daily between finishing work and starting to catch up on threads. PARTIAL SUCCESS – if you count chilling on the plane and at the airport plus a couple TV time then yes I managed to have some me time but June I am hoping to make more of an effort.

Though I was not really motivated in April, I actually managed to complete most of my goals. I am not sure about you but for the last few months I have been setting goals and not really checking if I am on track working on them or not so I am quite surprised I did better than expected in April.

{2016} MAY GOALS

  • Car Theory Test – For the last 6 years I have been singing the same song ‘I will do the driving test soon’ then I would day dream about all the places I will visit within the UK when I start to drive but never even got to do the ‘PRACTICAL’ test as I was always nervous. This time I have booked my theory test and will be doing some practical lessons with my dad.
  • Me time – As I have shared above, I did not really have much of ‘me time’ in April but since April does not have any travels booked (pending) I am hoping to use that time I would normally be away for myself.
  • Schedule friends in – My uni bestie and I have agreed to have a spa day this month when I return from Korea, I am hoping to meet up with my other friends as well instead of just keeping to myself in my apartment.
  • Plan forward – I am starting my postgraduate course this September but I am always going away in September so I need to start planning and getting myself ready for school again.
  • Improve the blog as a whole – Now I know this is too broad but that is my aim, I want to touch for many areas of my blog but I will work on that quietly behind the scenes and figure things out.

As I have always mentioned, I set goals for me to push myself, to remind myself of things I want to accomplish. Some of these things I share here on the blog and others I keep close to the chest until all is certain. Whether I accomplish them in that month is irrelevant, my motto is ‘if at first you don’t succeed, move it to the next month and try again‘. I an glad I did so well with my April goals but even if I didn’t I would have just moved them to the next month.

Do you set goals? How are you fairing so far?

Great goals. I definitely need to schedule more time in for friends – but it’s difficult with a 4 year old and a newborn! Missing my girls though x

These goals are quite doable. That is so important, because sometimes we make goals that can never be accomplished and then get frustrated

I have a few goals set for May, one of which is to increase my blog views so I’ve been doing a lot more to get some in there. I’m also looking to connect with more brands and PR companies. So let’s see how that goes.

Oh how I envy your plans and goals… I really ought to do something like this, even if it’s just jotting it down on my journal. I should also have some sort of blogging vision, but badly fail at this. I need my groove back… as if I’ve ever had it 😉 x

Great goals. I think that one of my problems with goals is I try to do too much and then are let down by them. These goals seem quite manageable! I hope you accomplish them this month!
