Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing 🤨
1988 - 9 months, (Chililabombwe, Zambia) although my mother looks tired and traumatised😟, I know I was loved and happy.

{Monthly Series} August 2017 Goals

August 2017 goals marks the 8th installment of the monthly goal series I started end of 2013. Every month I put together goals I wish to accomplish in the new month and effortlessly try to complete them. Whilst I don’t guarantee 100% completion I always aim for it and sometimes I reach it sometimes I don’t. For me it’s about trying and if I don’t succeed I move it to the next month until I do. Every month I share with you my goals from the previous month and show how I did.

Let’s review last month’s goals and how I got on…

July 2017 Goals

For the month of July 2017 I shared the following goals, let’s see how I did:

  • Celebrate and Enjoy – I turn 30 on July 7th and I am treating myself to an awesome trip. {SUCCESSFUL}
  • Plan and Prepare – I have a busy three weeks ahead after my birthday due to work. {SUCCESSFUL}
  • Review my finances – I am a stronger believe in carrying unaccomplished goals forward and trying again. {SUCCESSFUL}
  • Funding source for Postgraduate – as mentioned my work is not longer sponsoring me with my studies so need new avenue. {SUCCESSFUL}
  • Take time for me – Sometimes I feel silly for adding this in as a goal but I know the importance of self-care. {SUCCESSFUL}

It is such a thrill to see that I managed to accomplish ALL of my goals for July, I honestly didn’t think I would. But look what the lord has helped me achieve, I am at cloud 9 right now. I am now even more eager and excited to put together goals August 2017 goals. August 2017 goals

August 2017 Goals

Nothing in life is sort certain but planning gives us hope and direction. I am someone who loves to plan for the future, maybe not 10 years into the future but long enough. The August 2017 goals are what I am hoping to accomplish in the next 31 days and I am excited about it.

  • Savings – Whilst I have managed to find funding for my next two modules, I need for the next 2. I think setting a target to save money for my next module is the best way forward. If I was truly realistic and cut some things off in my life I know I can save enough.
  • Budgeting – The only way I will be able to save the amount that I need for my course is by learning to budget. Budgeting is not something new to me, I have practiced it a lot over the last few years. Trying to pay of my student debt required a lot of budgeting which I did quite well.
  • Planning and Preparing – Again this is for my upcoming modules for my masters program. I was so focused on finding money I forgot to think about reviewing the course material.
  • Self-Care time – I think it is very important to always pencil in time for yourself. We all lead different lives and my self-care time might be different to yours but we all need it.

There are so many goals that I want to plan for and put in place but I know I need to pace myself. There is nothing worse than over committing and then achieving nothing.

If it doesn’t CHALLENGE you it won’t CHANGE you!!

    Congratulations on reaching your goal. I was not able to meet two of mine, but that’s okay, 3 out 5 is still good. I wish the best for you this August. Your goals are very realistic and would not be difficult to achieve.

    What I really need to work on is to take care of myself. I know there are pressing deadlines to meet, but it I can afford it, I will need to delegate some tasks to free up precious time. Congratulations on achieving your goals and wishing you all the best this August.

    It sounds like you have some great goals ahead of you. I wish I had learned to budget better so I could have saved for grad school instead of taking out student loans. That’s so much better.

    First of all a belated happy birthday. Secondly, we do tend to put me time very far down the list even though it is very important. These area great monthly goals.

    I need to be more strict when it comes to following my budget. I think saving is always such a great goal especially if you’re planning to reward yourself with classes or a trip, or something special.

    These are great goals! It really isn’t fun to budget, but it is the right way to save! Don’t get yourself into a bunch of debt. Save first 🙂
