Being stuck at home with all the time in the world has its advantages and I have curated a list of 21 fun things to do at home to cure that boredom and bring some fun into our lives. Like most people, this year has thrown us into disarray and we have no choice but to adapt to the new norm. It will be tough at first but humans have an incredible way of adapting to changes.
Whenever I am not travelling, I am home, I love being at home but this only works well when I have travel as an outlet. With that gone, I had no choice but to come up with a list of 21 fun things to do at home to keep me sane. I will not lie, it has not been easy staring at the ceiling but I am determined to keep it as fun as possible and I hope these will be helpful to you

21 Fun Things to do at Home
Staying at home all day every day can become boring real quick especially for those with kids. As someone who lives alone, I have found boredom has set-in faster this time around than usual but I am determined not to let it defeat it. I thought of all the things that I have been doing of late to make staying at home fun and I curated a list of 21 fun things to do at home.
Whenever I am travelling solo, I found that I spend so much time exploring various places then when I am back at my hotel alone, I am consumed by what I saw. I thought why not create a list of things that I can do at home to stay entertained and cure boredom that is slowly setting in? Some of the things I have listed may not be fun for you but they are definitely fun for me.
- Exercise at home – over the last year I had enjoyed going to the gym, I made friends and our gym organises social events. This is no longer happening and all of a sudden my social calendar is bare but thankfully a few of our personal trainers have set up Zoom classes and I have been exercising with them.
- Try online yoga classes – yoga is something that I have practised on and off for many years so finding free online yoga classes has been fun. Whether you are new to yoga or practised for many years, it’s something anyone can do, its good for your health and its fun to do.
- Become a master chef (home edition) – I don’t know about you but being stuck at home has brought out the master chef in me, I have enjoyed cooking and baking up a storm in my home. You can do this with friends and family if you live together or a few doors down, cook in your own home and then share with them (safely) and see whose tastes better.
- Do your garden – I don’t have green fingers and don’t enjoy doing the garden but I enjoy taking care of flowers. I intend to add more flowers to the garden so I can actually do gardening without mowing the lawn.
- Host a themed movie night – this is one thing we have been enjoying a lot over the last few weeks. So far we’ve done, Disney princesses, Marvel and currently doing Disney classics.
- Play board games – I don’t have a lot of board games but we have a few fan-favourites like snakes and ladders and it is always a hit with friends and families and these days you can find them online.
- Do puzzles – I love puzzles and they are my go-to choice for long flights and now I am doing puzzles at home to cure boredom plus they are fun with others.
- Have a karaoke night – I love singing so this is a no-brainer and if your family is the same, I highly recommend doing a karaoke night and out the classics as well as some generational pieces.
- Have a spa day – I feel like when I come out of self-isolation I will be jelly because all I have been doing is daily spa days, face masks every morning and evening, nails every 2-weeks, bubble baths every other day and the list goes on.
- Read a book or listen to audible – of late I have found myself being lazy when it comes to reading so this is why I have moved onto audible. I can listen to someone read to me as I relax or get on with my day.
- Have a BBQ – the weather has been great of late and it made sense to make full use of it and have a BBQ at home. It’s weird having a BBQ alone but once the food is ready I completely forget about that and focus on eating.
- Make a scrapbook – this is something that I recently got into so I would highly recommend starting a scrapbook to document life now or past travels that you’ve done.
- Have a Netflix party – this is something that is new that Netflix introduced recently and it is something allows you to watch the same movies with friends and family who are far away and allows commentary too.
- Do your nails – this is something I have recently picked up – I always preferred going to the salon but now I am enjoying doing my own nails, it’s liberating.
- Online shopping – who doesn’t like online shopping, I am thankful most clothing companies are still offering deliveries countrywide and we can continue to shop until we drop.
- Declutter your home – this may not sound fun but I love a clean home and I always enjoy decluttering whenever I can.
- Bake – another thing that has been keeping me happy is baking as many goods as I like and perfecting my baking skills.
- Try knitting or crocheting – I am not the most crafts gifted person but I do enjoy knitting, it’s very therapeutic and quite relaxing.
- Have a wine tasting session – as a lover of all things wine, I have been enjoying wine tasting session with friends, we’ve been exchanging wines and hosting zoom wine tasting sessions.
- Take an online class – there a few classes that I have considered taking in the past but never had the time for and now I can not wait to get enrolled.
- Video call your families and friends – ever since we downloaded zoom and house party apps, all we’ve been doing is arranging video call sessions with friends and family. I think these two apps are so much better than skype and I am someone who absolutely loves Skype.
There are so many wonderful things that you can do during lockdown to stay entertained and connected with family and friends that you can not visit. Over the last few months, everyone has had to adopt a new way of living and though it is tough at times, humans are resilient creatures.
What are some of the activities that you are doing with your families and friends to pass time, to stay entertained and cure your boredom? What are your favourite family games?
