Whenever the temperature drops a few degrees below freezing, I became a winter sun chaser and book trips somewhere warm. At the beginning of the year, I thought about the best winter sun destinations and Thailand was high on that list. I had an amazing time basking in the warmth of the southern hemisphere and now I am back at it but this time sharing the best spots for winter sun. If like me you struggle during the winter season, below I have shared a few wonderful places you can explore for some winter sun.
Winter in the UK can be a little bleak, especially if you’re one of the many who suffer from some form of seasonal blues. Fortunately, there’s a way to deal with this: just head to somewhere a little bit sunnier for a winter break! There’s no shortage of holiday hotspots with winter sunshine to offer; if you’re looking to get out of the country this winter, all you need to do is get in touch with a reputable villa provider like Villa Plus, and start soaking up those rays.

So what are the best places to catch some sunshine during winter? Last year, we covered twenty European destinations for winter. Here, we’ll take a look at a few more from around the world.
The Best Spots for Winter Sun
Costa Rica
Costa Ricais an island paradise offers a tropical climate and plenty of amazing wildlife and scenery. More than a quarter of the land is dedicated to conservation. It enjoys scorching temperatures throughout the year, and thus ranks among the best spots to take a break during winter. Be sure to check whether it’s wet or dry season before you make your plans.
Florida
If you have kids to entertain, then there are few better destinations than Florida. There a handful of truly world-class theme parks to visit in the state, including Universal Orlando, Disney World, and Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay. But there’s also a wealth of fantastic wildlife courtesy of the famous Everglades. Since you’re not visiting during the middle of summer, you won’t have to deal with quite the same volume of crowds, which makes this an ideal break for families on a tighter budget.
Thailand
This corner of East Asia is enormously popular with western tourists, mostly thanks to its affordability; once the cost of your flights has been accounted for, Thailand is an exceptionally cheap place to live. The weather is reliably warm all year round, with the lowest temperatures in winter being in the low teens. There’s plenty of Buddhist history to soak up, as well as jungle-strewn landscape to marvel at.
Cyprus
If you’re thinking that you’d prefer somewhere a little more affordable, then you might go a little more local with a trip to Cyprus. Another island, it’s not quite as equatorial as some of the other entries on this list, which makes it a little milder during wintertime. Temperatures outdoors hover in the high teens, and the tourist crowds are suitably thin.
Oman
This middle eastern destination is a little bit like Dubai in terms of climate. The difference comes from the absence of modern glitz and glamour – there are no skyscrapers
Madeira
This island belongs to Portugal – though it’s some way away from the country’s mainland, being right in the middle of the Atlantic. You’ll get a pleasant combination of baking sunshine and bracing sea-breeze, along with copious dolphin and whale-watching opportunities. Just make sure that you do your research and go with a reputable guide when you head out onto the Atlantic.

I am craving some sunshine at the moment. I have friends who go away every Christmas, in December I had a friend in Goa and one in the Canary Islands and I loved seeing their photos. You have put together some great selections.
