Charlecote Park is a 16th-century Victorian country house built in 1558 by Sir Thomas Lucy. The house is situated along the banks of River Avon south of Warwick with its own deer park. The Charlecote Park has been in the Lucy family for over 900 years until 1946 when it was entrusted to the National Trust for preservation.
Though Charlecote Park is smaller compared to most National Trust properties I have visited, it offers unparalleled views of the Warwickshire countryside. Our visit happened at the end of the winter on a crispy morning, Charlecote Park had never looked so beautiful. I was the first visitor of the day and had a lovely time just exploring the property undisturbed.

Charlecote Park Warwickshire
Whenever I visit NT properties, I make a point on reviewing the site map to familiarise myself with the estate. Though Charlecote Park in Warwickshire is smaller in size, it does boast beautiful parklands to explore. The parklands are the best place to take a stroll and for those with dogs perfect play to let them roam free.
One of the best things about Charlecote Park in Warwickshire is not only the estate grounds but the immaculately kept Victorian Kitchen. One of the best things about visiting NT properties is getting the chance to tour the homes and take a closer look at the former owner’s legacies.
A little research of Charlecote Park revealed that Queen Elizabeth I once stayed at the house is what is now a drawing room. The house has over the Lucy ownership undergone tremendous changes but is now mostly a Victorian house.

Things to do at Charlecote Park Warwickshire
Depending on when you visit Charlecote Park often always has activities going on unless in case of adverse weather. Recently they hosted a bird and mini beast trail for Easter where families could take part. Other things that you can do include;
- Explore the woodland garden and thatched summer house
- Explore the parklands where Shakespeare is believed to have poached rabbits in
- Discover the treasure of the house
- Spend time in the Victorian kitchen and learn about the lives of the servants
- Have a bite in the orangey restaurant or wood yard cafe
- Buy some second-hand books
- Watch the deers as you enjoy a picnic on the grounds
Visit Charlecote Park in Warwickshire and learn about the Lucy family whose roots date back to the time of King Richard I. Discover the history of the parklands and woodlands and if you want to stay longer, stay in the Turret. I had such a lovely time exploring the estate on an early crispy cold morning.
As a member of the National Trust, I have access to thousands of properties for a mere £6 monthly fee. For those with families, such membership is a worthy investment filled with an abundance of places across the country to explore.
