Goal setting is the act of developing an action plan that is designed to give guidance towards achieving a goal. In order to achieve any goals, it is important to evaluate and review your goals regularly and keep track. A goal without a plan is just a plain wish, allocate time in your schedule to evaluate and review your goals regularly.
Over the last few years, I had shared monthly goals and in each, I took time to review the previous month’s goals. I believe in scheduling time to look back and learn from it, it is imperative if you want to succeed. Setting goals, planning and reading affirmations is not enough, you need to review your goals regularly.

Reason To Track Goals
Every goal that is set should be measurable, there is no point setting goals that you cannot measure your level of success. Instead of setting a vague weight loss goal {I want to lose weight}, be a little more specific {I want to lose 2 stones in 6 months}. You want a goal that can be tracked and is measurable.
When you are able to track your goals and see progress, this can be a motivator to accomplish your goals. It is also a great way to assess your progress, rethink the goals and/or create a new strategy. It is important to evaluate and review your goals regularly as it keeps you accountable. Staying on top of your goals keeps them refresh on your mind and you can intentionally work to achieve them.
There are many different ways one can keep track of their goals either electronically or offline, it is a personal choice. I personally am not good at tracking my goals using a calendar nor do I track my goals daily. What works for me is checking my goals monthly and have it written on the blog as opposed to a calendar or journal.

Evaluation and Review of 2019 Goals – #1
At the beginning of the year, I set 13 goals for 2019 and shared 11 tips on setting achievable goals. The goals for 2019 are simple, measurable and I consider them to be personal growth goals. I focused on areas in my life that I know I needed to grow in using small steps with a focus on the bigger picture.
As I mentioned already, it is important to find a way that works for you to keep track of your goals. For me, monthly reviews are what work for me and allow me enough time to reassess the goals. Over the last 3 months, at the beginning of each month, I look through the goals and track my progress.
In this post, I will highlight the 13 goals that I set for 2019 and the measurable progress on each (if any). I have a motto which reads, ‘if at first you don’t succeed, keeping trying until you do whilst adjusting your method.
- Earn £500 a month on this blog | PARTIAL SUCCESS – February & March I exceeded my target whereas February was a total fail.
- Save 50% of the monthly earnings from this blog | PARTIAL SUCCESS – Whilst I was able to do this, I ended up using the funds to move house.
- Run every day for 20 minutes | PARTIAL SUCCESS – January & February went well, then I went on vacation then moved to a new house and stopped completely.
- Stretch every morning before work for 15 minutes |FAIL – I completely forget unless am going for a run either early morning or before bed.
- Continue to attend yoga classes every other day weekly | SUCCESS – excluding vacation days I have been religiously attending my yoga classes.
- Travel once a month within the UK | SUCCESS – January we travelled to Devon, February we travelled to Cambridge and March to Warwickshire.
- Travel abroad at least once every quarter | SUCCESS – I travelled to Thailand and spent time in Phuket, Chiang Rai and Krabi
- Drink 8 ounces of water daily | FAIL – though I drink water daily I can’t say I drink 8 ounces unless you count tea
- Stop drinking fizzy drinks completely | HUGE SUCCESS – I was a fizzy drink addict, it took everything in me to give it up.
- Create a weekly meal plan | FAIL – I get a weekly food box which I have discontinued
- Continue to declutter every 6-weeks |PARTIL FAIL – I have decluttered since moving to a new house but not done a proper one for 6-months
- Do a social media detox weekly | HUGE FAIL – being a blogger it can be tough, but it needs to be done.
- Plan and follow a monthly budget | SUCCESS – I track my expenses via excel, old school I know but I love it.
Looking through how I have done in quarter 1 2019, I have done pretty well but it has made me realise some goals need to be revamped. Reviewing the goals has allowed me this opportunity to rethink my initial plan and re-strategize. It is important not to give up especially when you’re not ticking the goals off, stay motivated and take the goals back to the drawing board.

I need to set some goals using your tips.i tend to be quite vague rather than saying I want to do X before X date.

That’s really good advice. I’m rubbish at setting goals and then when I do I forget to review them. Gonna try and do better in future.

I really love to set myself monthly goal it’s a great way for me to stay focused and achieve them. I do like the ideas for other goals that I never would have thought of setting.

What a great idea to list down monthly goals. I think this would motivate me a hell of a lot more having something like this.

This is so good to keep moving forward in whatever you are doing. I am rubbish at it with the blog, and tend to only do it at the end/start of the year. I currently have 12 adventure challenges I am doing throughout the year though and make time to evaluate how far I am along with these every Sunday night! so some progress in goal evaluation!!

I really like your thinking! Do you find that because you have published your goals and everyone can see them – you feel more motivated?

I love this idea of setting goals. I am a creature of habit and I think something like this would help me so much. That great feeling of ticking things off the list.
