Five Reasons To Visit Castle Combe

Visit Castle Combe, I demand it of you 🙂

Castle Combe is known as the ‘prettiest village in England’ and it is not hard to see why. Arriving in the village (whatever route you took to get there), you’re greeted by a nice walk down hill to the centre of the village. There is a car park up to before entering the village, it’s free to park. Prior to a friend mentioning it to me, I had never heard of it before. I am quite ashamed to admit that but it’s the truth. How could I not know that this is the same village where they filmed Jane Austin’s Emma? Or Steven Spielberg’s War Horse? I was really astounded and was eager to visit this village even more.

After spending an afternoon in Castle Combe, I felt I had a duty to my readers to share five reasons to visit Castle Combe. One must visit the prettiest village in England with haste and take in the beauty that this village has to offer. So, what does this village offer one to make the trip worth it.

Five Reasons To Visit Castle Combe

The Manor House

I have seen my share of beautiful venues and I can say without a doubt The Manor House in Castle Combe tops the charts. If one was to have a party or a wedding here one’s guests would reminisce for months to come. The Manor House is both Peaceful and Sublime, I can hand on heart confidently say Castle Combe really offers both peacefulness and sublime without even trying.

Castle Combe Circuit

I know next to nothing about circuits and racing (I do watch F1 though). I learned that for over 65 years Castle Combe circuit has been home to Motorsports and car shows. For the car shows enthusiasts in your life, this would be utter bliss and absolute fun.

Movies were made

It’s not everyday you stumble upon a beautiful village were two very different genres of movies were made. Steven Spielberg’s War Horse and Jane Austin’s Pride & Prejudice, as well as Emma were filmed here too.

St Andrew’s Church 

Every village in the UK has a church, it wouldn’t be right for the prettiest village in England not to have a church. Though the church could do with some restoration (some currently happening), it has retained most of its original features.

The 14th century market cross 

It was amazing just being able to just sit at the market cross and take it all in, the website has this to say about the market cross.

This historic monument is the centre-piece of the village. It is believed to date from the 14th century when the privilege to hold a weekly market was first granted. Just below this there is also a structure sometimes referred to as the ‘buttercross’, which was in fact for tethering and mounting horses. {Source}
