Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing 🤨
1988 - 9 months, (Chililabombwe, Zambia) although my mother looks tired and traumatised😟, I know I was loved and happy.

How to Make Moving House Less Stressful

Moving house is often considered one of life’s more stressful events, like going through a divorce, a health scare, or a bereavement. Fortunately, there are things that you might do to limit the stress involved with the process. Let’s consider some critical stress-busting tips for movers.

Moving house is often considered one of life’s more stressful events – alongside things like going through a divorce, a health scare, or a bereavement. Fortunately, there are things that you might do to limit the stress involved with the process. Let’s consider some critical stress-busting tips for movers.

*Disclosure – This is collaborative

Start Planning Early

The earlier you start planning for the move, the more likely it is to go smoothly. You’ll want to advise all of your utility providers and the DVLA of your change of address. You’ll also want to redirect your post to your new residence, until you have a chance to let everyone know where you’re living.

By doing this several weeks, or even months before the change is due to occur, you’ll avoid a last-minute panic. However, you’ll want to be sure that the move is going to go through before you do it. This is where making a checklist can be critical. You can simply run through the list, and not actually have to think too much about what’s next.

Declutter Before Packing

It’s much easier to pack if you aren’t having to wade through clutter as you do it. After all, there may be many items spread throughout your home that you don’t want to take with you. Getting rid of them will save you the cost of transporting them unnecessarily.

Decluttering is a task you can do early in the process, as it doesn’t depend on the move actually going through. Simply go through your home, room by room, and make three piles of items. One pile is for donations, the second is for the bin, and the third is for selling.

Arrange Transportation

Actually transporting your possessions can be done in one of two ways. You can hire a professional moving company, or you can take the DIY approach. The latter option tends to mean hiring or borrowing a van – unless you’re literally moving across the street. If you do decide to borrow a van, then you’ll need to arrange temporary van insurance. If you’re hiring from a rental company, then this might already be bundled in – though it’s worth checking.

Pack Strategically

If your belongings are efficiently packed, then they’ll be much easier to transport. It’s easiest to categorise items according to the room they come from – which will tend to correspond to the room they end up being unloaded in.

Make sure that you pack a separate box for the essential items you’ll need immediately after arriving. You can often pick up boxes from offices, supermarkets, and by simply asking around – just make sure that the boxes you get are substantial enough to cope with a few bumps and scrapes. Fragile and expensive items should be packed securely – and marked as fragile.
