Spring is in the and air I am still talking about how to save money on electricity because for most of us our electric bill doesn’t change much between seasons. I recently shared tips on how I save money on energy bill and as I continue to practice my frugality, I thought I share more tips on how to save money on electricity. Saving money on your next electric bill can be as simple as switching your bulbs for *LED lighting around your home or as extreme as switching your electricity provider to some more affordable providers.
Ever since I became a homeowner, I have been paying extra attention to all my bills and home maintenance in general. From frugal life hacks to how others save money on everyday things and how you can too. The next escapade I am focusing on is how to save money on electricity and there is no better time to put this into play than now when the weather is starting to warm up but we still have enough cold nights to warrant keeping the heating on for a couple of hours and in this post I am sharing my top 5 tips.

How to Save Money on Electricity
When my siblings and I still lived at home, I remember my mum making us go through a ritual of checking everything was unplugged from our devices to appliances like the TV. We found it annoying as only children would but now that we own our own homes, it all makes sense. It is difficult to see the value of doing certain things until you have to pay the bills for it yourself. I am glad that even though we complained as kids we learned the importance of unplugging our devices and impact that it has on our monthly electric bill.
There many ways you can save money on your next electric bills and in this post I will share simple tips that you can start to implement as soon as possible. For long term investments, you can look to install *LED panels in and around your home and this will definitely bring your electric bill down regardless of the weather. A friend of mine has LED panels installed and has talked about how much money they are serving compared to before. For those of us who are yet to install LED panels, I have a few tips you can implement right now.
Dry your Laundry outside
As the weather begins to warm up, I have been making use of drying my clothes on the line than using the tumble dry or switching my heating on so I can use my radiators. Obviously, during winter its hard to hang your clothes on the line but as the weather starts to warm up you can put them outside, they will dry faster and your home will thank you for it.
Reduce your use of the washing machine
It is often said that it’s cheaper to use the washer at night than during peak hours which are often between 8am and 7pm. But to save money, I would encourage you to reduce how many times you run your washing machine or dishwasher. I run my washing machine once a week on a Sunday or Saturday night to save money instead of running the machine every single day
Unplug your Appliances
Did you know that most appliances still draw electricity even when switched off but not unplugged this is why it is so important that you unplug all the devices that you are not using. I used to be so bad at this and would leave a lot of my devices plugged in even when I am not using them but not anymore. Whilst it won’t save yo £££, you will still be saving a little that down the road does add up.
Use the kettle less
Until I got a smart meter installed, I did not know that switching my kettle on costs me more money than the fridge or the stove. Somehow this small appliance is able to draw a lot of electricity and since I try to reduce how many times I use the kettle. As I drink a lot of tea on any given day, I use a flask which I fill up with hot water every morning and use it throughout the day.
Keep your Freezer Full
I did not know this but did you know that if your freezer is full it saves money than when you have too many spaces in it? This was news to me so I am always keeping my freezer stocked with foods that I either bought or the many leftovers I seem to have every single week.
There are so many ways you can reduce your next electricity bill from reducing your thermostat to using energy saving appliances. It may take you some time but I hope you find the 5 tips above useful and can implement them to reduce your next electric bill.
