Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.

2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).

The Pros and Cons of Travel Insurance

Did you know that there are still people who won’t take out travel insurance when they travel abroad? In this day and age, it is crazy not to have adequate cover should the worst happen during your trip. I have been fortunate on all my travels thus far, not have needed to make any claims whatsoever.

But this does not mean it is not essential because should the worst happen, if I have it then I would be covered. Of course, like everything in life, travel insurance has both its pros and cons. In this article, we will discuss the pros and cons of travel insurance and its important.

The Pros Of Travel Insurance

One of the biggest benefits of having great travel insurance is knowing you are covered for any emergency medical situation and missed flights. You are also covered if your flight is cancelled, lost luggage or if the travel company goes bust.

Another reason why you should take out holiday insurance is because it will also be able to cover flight cancellations due to natural disaster. Cancellations resulting from faults with a cruise ship, your insurance might cover it if you have the right coverage. If you have the right coverage on your insurance, you can enjoy your holiday with a peace of mind should the worst happen.

The Cons Of Travel Insurance

Having adequate travel insurance is great but it comes with a few cons too. The main issue for most people being the cost, whether the trip was smooth sailing or not, you still pay. Many people sometimes feel that this money could have been better spent on their holiday, but you pay for a piece of mind. This allows you to really sit back, relax and enjoy your holiday without worrying should something happen.

Another issue that some people find with travel insurance is that it may not cover everything that you need for your particular trip abroad. If you are simply opting for the cheapest travel cover available, then this usually means that it will offer the least amount of coverage too.

This then makes no sense to spend a lot of money on coverage that won’t protect you should something, unfortunately, go wrong. It is extremely important that you read the policy carefully to ensure that everything that you need, is covered. For example, many policies will require to spend more if you are going to be partaking in winter sports during your trip. It is important to read the fine print and know before you travel what is covered and isnt.

Any type of insurance has both pros and cons and its about accessing whether the pros outweigh the cons. With adequate travel insurance, you can travel with a peace of mind and no stretching about anything. At the end of the day, its about being sensible and forward thinking should any eventualities happen.

Getting travel insurance is a MUST. There’s no way around it. You don’t want something out of your control to happen and you’re left with the bill.

I’ve never taken out any travel insurance – but we don’t travel much. But I can see if we go on a huge trip, getting insurance. You never know what will happen.

We have had to decide about travel insurance on our bigger trips. We did get it when we traveled to the Galapagos Islands, because it was an expensive trip and we didn’t want to take any chances.

I sometimes get travel insurance and sometimes I don’t. My family and I cruise a lot so when we cruise we ALWAYS get travel insurance but if it’s just a flight overseas for a quick vacation, I usually don’t

You definitely need to shop around for travel insurance and make sure it covers everything you need. But going away without it abroad is definitely a big no!

Whenever I go overseas I always get health insurance. I do not want to worry. You have some great tips here I can definitely say do not get the cheapest policy. You will not be happy in the end if you have to pay a lot more out-of-pocket.

We have travel insurance with our bank so its a good perk. It’s definitely important to know what is and isn’t included. We had to claim for a cancelled holiday a few years ago and it was all handled really well.
