I have been a homeowner for five years now, and I have been slowly but surely renovating my home whenever I get the chance. Over the last couple of years, I have done renovations both indoors and outdoors, and I am thinking of doing a couple more projects within my home and outdoors. Renovating my home gives me so much joy because not only am I adding value to my home, but I am also doing something that improves my home to my liking. I have always dreamed of designing and then having my own home built, but I still love my current home and its design.
I have shared several home renovation ideas on the blog that I have either implemented or considered for my current home. Back in 2023, I decided to remodel my main bathroom and remove the tub to replace it with a shower because I got tired of scrubbing a tub. I have nothing against tubs, I just want one that I am the only one using, and everyone gets to use the shower, which I find easier to clean. Fast forward to now, and I miss having a tub in my home. The original plan was to have one in my en-suite after replacing the one in the main bathroom, but the finances thought otherwise.

Renovating my Home
When buying a house, no one tells you about the little things that will come to bother you in the long run. Firstly, I love my home, but there are certain things I still want to change and not for the sake of changing, but for either practical reasons or functional reasons. Replacing a tub with a shower cubicle in the main bathroom was for practical reasons, and adding a pergola to my garden was for functional reasons. In my dream home, I want to add a *Home Sauna for functional reasons rather than practical ones.
Renovating my home is something that I fear I may never stop because after a couple of years of using something the way they were initially designed, I want a switch-up. Like I mentioned earlier, the changes will either be practical or functional, and I think the only limiting factor I have at the moment is ‘the cost of it all’. But a girl can dream, right? And with that thought in mind, here is what I am thinking of upgrading inside and outside my home.
- Removing or updating the raised beds – back in 2020/1, I decided to replace to grass with artificial grass and add raised beds. This was fun while it lasted, but now, I am done with them, as all the weeds I wanted to get rid of just grow in the same raised beds. My plan is either to remove the raised beds entirely or to fill them with stones and add large flower pots instead.
- Replace the shed – my shed is not the best, and I must admit, the main reason for wanting to replace it at present is all aesthetic rather than any other reason. Whilst I concede it’s old and a few planks here and there would do the job, I want the whole thing gone and replaced by something new.
- Replacing kitchen window with door – my home was designed without a door in the kitchen, which has been a bother to me since I bought the property, and I have been wanting to replace the second big window in the kitchen with a door. I have received quotes for it and am considering getting that done soon.
- Installation of fitted storage – all the bedrooms in my home do not have fixed storage, and I have been wanting to replace the Ikea storage with permanently fitted storage. Those who know me know I like moving things around, but if it’s fixed, I have no choice but to live with it, and I want that for my bedroom.
There are so many other little projects that I want to tackle, but for now, I think these are enough when it comes to renovating my home. Like I said, if cost wasn’t a factor, I would have gone ahead and worked on the ones I have mentioned above. Do you have any home projects you’re working on?
