5 Streams of Income to Pursue in the New Year
Why do people want to try making money online? There could be many reasons for this but a few that I am can think of are; to support their current lifestyle, to pay off debt quicker, to create an emergency fund or maybe they just want to save for a specific goal. No matter your circumstance, there are several ways to make money online and I personally make money online using the very avenues I am sharing in this post.
Over the last 7 years of my blogging ‘career’, I have seen ‘influencers’ grow their platforms into businesses and some have even given up their day job to pursue something they are passionate about. The majority of those who’ve given up their 9-5 have pursued various online adventures (e.g becoming a YouTuber etc.) made are making more money thank in their previous full-time jobs which is great.
Although I said I would share only 5 streams of income to pursue in the New Year, I thought I include 5 more that others might like to know about especially if they are already pursing the other 5 that I will mention.

Sell your old clothes
This might not seem like an income stream but it’s one of the easiest ways to make money without doing much. If you like me, you have several clothes that you have not worn in years (some still have their labels) and can be sold at a reasonable price. When I found out I could sell my old clothes when I was younger, I used eBay a lot and made a few bucks (got addicted and almost sold everything 😂😂). If you have clothes that don’t fit anymore or even doesn’t match your current style – you can sell these and make money online.
You can sell your old clothes on:
- eBay
- Facebook Market place
- Depop
- Vinted

Make things to sell online
I confirm, I am not creative in the slightest but I have been making budget trackers and selling them on Etsy. The rest of my family are very creative and they make a variety of items to sell online. My mother is a multi-talented woman who can bake, knit and sew, her creativity has allowed her to go from full-time nursing to less than part-time (she loves it too much to give up). She has given some of that creativity and talent to my sister who is great with her hands too, apart from baking she can knit and sew.
Both my mother and sister sell their homemade items on:
- Shopify
- Etsy
- Facebook, and
- eBay
UpWork
Upwork is an online platform that works to solve people’s problems by bringing talent into one place to the brands and companies in need. I only got introduced to this website a few months back and I have started to make money from it. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t start right away, it took me a few weeks (6-7 weeks) before I was able to make my first penny. On this website, you can use your current skills to make money, I have signed up to proofread people’s work, as a blogger I have also signed up to write content for websites or review their websites and give them some ideas on what they can do to improve.
Teachable
This is another website that I got introduced to only this year and I am so glad I have this opportunity to share this website with you. So Teachable is a website where you are able to teach people what you know. I work in the Pharmaceutical industry and I have a varied range of skills that I wish someone taught me about when I started out my career, so I am sharing those skills on Teachable. But you don’t have to be some professional to be able to teach on this website but your level of education is above high school they often accept such applications. I also teach English on the website to those who want to improve their English language proficiency.
News Brief
This is the newest website I have been introduced to and I am excited to make money from this website. If you are a blogger then this website is perfect for you or are someone who loves writing you might love this website too. You can make $1000 a week if your articles meet the requirements. For bloggers, you can repurpose your old articles and add them to this website to give them a new lease of life.

Additional Income Stream Ideas
If you are already pursuing the 5 income streams above then let me recommend a few more than might be of interest to you.
- Blogging/Vlogging – even though you won’t start earning money on day-1 (although possible), with hard work and dedication, you can earn a good passive income from blogging or vlogging.
- Investments – if you have even a spare $100/£100 you can open an investment account and start investing every single month for many years. I have been doing it for a number of years and have a good nestle egg.
- Real Estate – this is not for everyone but I think its another great income stream to look into. I am hoping to become a landlord in a few months time but uncertain about the current housing market.
- Care Work – when I was in college and later in university, I worked as a carer and its a fulfilling job that I recommend to anymore. Right now it’s obviously tough but with the vaccine, things might be going back to normal.
- Dog walking – again this is another way to earn extra money, if you have dogs its even better but its not often a requirement. If you have the flexible I would definitely recommend it, check your local dog sanctuaries and companies looking for local dog walkers.
