Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.

2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing 🤨

Tips for Planning a Holiday for 2021

As a travel blogger and a dreamer, I am already planning a holiday for 2021 but the pragmatic side of me is asking me to sit my a$$ down. At the moment, none of us is thinking about jetting off anywhere any time soon but it doesn’t hurt to plan ahead. I am a planner by nature and thrive when I plan things in advance and that goes for travel planning too.

Whilst going on holiday is currently put on hold, now is the perfect time to start planning a holiday for 2021. Start thinking about your perfect trip for when you can get out and about again. Whether you love a relaxing beach holiday or an exciting city break, there are certain things that you can prep ahead of time to make it easier when it comes to booking.

Planning a Holiday for 2021

Here are just some tips for planning your perfect holiday for the future.

Pick the destination

This may sound easy, but with so many amazing places, even just around the UK, it can be tricky to pick where to go. Start by narrowing down to five top destinations you want to visit, and if you’re struggling to decide, you can even look to plan further ahead by researching more than one location.

When choosing your destination, you’ll want to consider whether it ticks all your boxes for a perfect holiday. Consider things like; does it have the kind of scenery you enjoy, does it offer the types of restaurants and bars you’d want to visit, does it have plenty of activities to do along with history and culture to explore and what are the accommodation and travel options like.

Once you’ve chosen your destination, you can start conducting more in-depth research, looking in to how you’d get there, and what you’d want to see and do once you arrive!

Research

Everyone has a type of holiday they prefer, from lazing the days away in sunnier climates to putting a backpack on and exploring everything the destination has to offer. In order to make sure you don’t miss a thing and that you’ve chosen the perfect place, you’ll want to do your research.

If you’re looking for a quiet relaxing break, make sure there are plenty of places to while the hours away; this could be a coastal break for a long weekend or a trip to the countryside. For those who enjoy a more action-packed holiday you’ll need to look into what sort of activities and excursions your destination offers.

In the research stage you should look at recommendations, searching online forums, reviews and online discussions or even getting in touch with holiday providers and tourism boards to find out what’s on offer. You may discover certain landmarks you wouldn’t want to miss, along with figuring out the best areas to stay in, how you’ll get about and the best time of year to visit.

Narrow down accommodation

After you’ve researched your chosen location its time to narrow down the accommodation options. As with choosing your destination, each person has a different ideal on the style of accommodation you’ll enjoy. From having a place to lay your head in a swanky apartment after a day out exploring a city such as London, to relaxing by a wood burner in cosy Dorset Holiday Cottages after a day relaxing by the sea, there’s something for everyone.

Research some of the hotels, hostels, B&Bs and holiday cottages that are available to see which one ticks your boxes for that perfect stay.

Consider travel

This is an important stage for making sure your trip is feasible. You’ll need to research how you’ll travel to your destination, and crucially how you’ll get around once you’re there. This could mean looking at hiring a car or exploring the public transport options.

There are many things to consider when planning the perfect trip, and now is the perfect time to plan ahead. Whilst you may not be booking your holiday just yet, you can certainly start dreaming of escapism.

As someone who loves travelling, I am not even wisftfully thinking of anywhere yet as I don’t want to get my hopes up. I think we will stay within the UK for a at least another year before even thinking about trying to head abroad

I am also a big time planner! We had to cancel 3 big trips that I had spent months planning out this year due to our current situation. I am reluctant to start planning for anything right now. But your tips are amazing and I am hoping to use them all soon!

I’m holding of making any holiday plans until at least the Autumn when the situation is clearer – if we do go away it will be to a cottage somewhere with plenty of walking/coastal options.

Research is important when deciding to book a trip away. I like relaxing beach holidays so make sure that where I choose isn’t located where there is loud night life that goes on all hours and keeps us all awake.
