Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing 🤨
1988 - 9 months, (Chililabombwe, Zambia) although my mother looks tired and traumatised😟, I know I was loved and happy.

Transition Your Spring Skincare Routine To A Summer

Are you ready to transition your spring skincare routine to a summer routine yet? Over the last few weeks, we have enjoyed such good weather you would be forgiven for thinking we were already in summer but alas we have a few more weeks. As a summer baby (July), I love nothing more than when the weather warms up and I can switch out the thicker moisturisers for lighter ones. Those who know me know they every season change, I always change up my skincare products but the routine almost always remains the same with a few minor tweaks.

Summer is a few short weeks away and I am sure you are ready to transition your spring skincare routine to a summer routine. There is nothing I dislike more like wearing heaving products that clog up my pores and often melt as the weather gets warmer. The last thing anyone wants is to look ratchet after spending considerable time in the morning applying makeup. This is why I want to share a few tips you too can follow to ensure you keep your skin looking healthy, rejuvenated and hydrated.

Transition Your Spring Skincare Routine To A Summer

As someone who has combination skin-type, I find it helpful to review the products I use every season. I want to ensure that I am providing my skin with products that contain the right nutrients and won’t strip off anything essential. During the summer months, your skin becomes oiler thanks to the extreme heat and humidity. It is also very easy for your skin to get clogged up and mostly this is due to not having a good skincare routine. For those who are ready to transition your spring skincare routine to a summer routine, here is what you need to know and do.

Summer Skincare Routine: Double Cleanse

Thanks to the elevation in the skin oil production that is as a result of the heat and humidity, your skin becomes more oiler than usual. For those of us who suffer from Seborrhoea, we know that excess oils are not necessarily a bad thing if you have a good skincare regime.

During the summer months, I recommend double cleansing to unclog the pores that you’ve diluted with sunscreen, makeup plus the natural oils that your skin released in excess. The double cleansing regime I follow is using wipes or micellar water to remove the first layer of makeup/impurities. Then I follow-up with cleansing brush and light cleanser like Neutrogena Hydro Boost water gel cleanser.

Hydrate and Moisturise

During the summer months, your skin is bound to get drier than usual and for those with dry skin this can cause your skin too look patched. As someone with combination skin, I invested in good skincare products that support my skin keeping it hydrated and looking healthy.

There is nothing more important during the summer months that ensuring you drink more water because your body loses a lot. But drinking water is not enough, you need to utilise products that will not only protect the skin barrier but will repair the skin at the same time. You will also need to invest in hydrating products that boost and binds moisture so you lose any water.

I recommend Neutrogena hydro, Simple kind to skin light and Paula’s Choice: resist barrier repair cream as moisturisers.

Multi-Masking

Multi-masking is the idea that you use more than one mask on your face to deal with whatever skin conditions you have. I have combination skin and often multi-mask with two types of masks at the same time to give me the desired effect. I am a great believer in the use of masks to hydrate, moisturise and adding of nutrients to the skin.

If you are new to multi-masking, I recommend a few tips, always exfoliate your skin before applying a mask, this removes the dead cells and allows your skin chance to absorb the nutrients from the mask. Another way to ensure the masks you use are actually of benefit to your skin is to ensure you use the mask post showering because your pores are more open and those with dry skin using the mask after a shower can help retain moisture.

In terms of mask recommendation, I don’t have a particular brand that I use as I buy the majority of my masks from South Korea (the home of the best skincare products). I do however recommend masks with hyaluronic acid and Vitamin C.

Summer Face Routine Tips

Having a skincare routine doesn’t need to be complicated, long nor expensive. It is important to ensure you know what skin type you have so you know which products you should be using. I follow a few tips religiously and I highly recommend them to anyone new to creating a skincare routine.

  • Defend your skin with sunscreen
  • Stay hydrated by drinking water more frequently
  • Cleanse
  • Moisturising
  • Exfoliate
  • Load up on melons
  • Protect the lips with lip balm

I am passionate about my skincare and products that I use daily to maintain my skin. Most of my friends who don’t have routines always comment on how time consuming they think routines are but with a little education and knowing what works for you, it is easy to incorporate that into your everyday routine.

Really helpful. I struggle to know how to change it up when the seasons change so this is incredibly useful to me and I’ll definitely be taking notice of it!

I don’t tend to change my skincare all that much from Spring to Summer as my routine covers everything, but it’s important to respond to what your skin needs x
