Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Ok so that just happened, the weekend before my getaway to Ljubljana (a mouth full I know :)) I was sat in my apartment alone, disappointed due to cancelled plans when I decided to check out what offers wizz air had. I stumbled upon many offers but when I saw £46 return ticket to Ljubljana, Slovenia I knew I had to get this ticket. I work with a Slovenia colleague who always talks about her country and its beauty, she visits her motherland every chance she gets with her husband and kids. I had wanted to go visit just from hearing her talk about her homeland and before my brain had an opportunity to be objective I bought the ticket. I then realised I needed to start searching for a hotel to stay in and how to get from airport to hotel and back.
Lets just say I am a spontaneous person 🙂

Where shall I start? From the beginning I hear you say, always the best place to begin.
Saturday arrived faster than I expected, my flight was 7.35am so boo drove me to Luton Airport at 5am. Departure was delayed due to air traffic, this made me panic a little bit because my Go Opti airport transfer was booked for 11.15 (Slovenian time) and my flight had an estimated arrival time of 10.30 so delays were not my friend. Plane departed a few minutes late, it is 1hr 20 minutes flight, whilst on board I bought a 2 x croissant and hot chocolate, ate one croissant and decided to snooze as was not sure how long it would be to get to hotel. When I woke up I managed to get a few pictures of the many mountains in Slovenia and when plane landed I realised someone had stolen my 2nd croissant was not impressed, I think it was the guy behind me but he refused so not to embarrass myself and him and just said maybe I threw it away by accident. We arrives at 10.45, I made a desperate call to my pick-up driver and told him about the situation luckily for me he was very understanding and said he would wait, in the end there was no need as I managed to get through immigration/customs in record time of 5 minutes. I had 5 more minutes left so nipped to the loo then went to meet him.
The service I had booked for picture was with multiple passengers which was cheaper (£6 each way), he dropped off the couple first then me and told me same location tomorrow (Sunday) for pick-up. I checked in at the hotel Ambrosic Rooms 2 hours earlier than expected, I was pleased they let me check in that early so I could leave my luggage and go for walks freely. The room cost me £24 plus 1 euro city tax, it was very sizeable, clean, has the river view which is gorgeous, free wifi and the shared bathroom which I didn’t mind.
After leaving my bag, I went for a walk along the river Ljubljana then went to the Saturday Market where I picked up some lovely natural body lotion and some Slovenian biscuits. I toured the town, earlier I had gone to the train station to exchange my pound to Euros as I had used my Euros to pay for room in advance instead of check-out day (my choice). After the town walk I decided to visit the Ljubljana castle which was absolutely beautiful, I paid 10 euros to for funicular and the castle which is affordable i think. You can just buy the funicular ride for 4 euros and explore outside the castle which was gorgeous too. At the top of the castle I was able to have a bird’s-eye view of the city, though fog was still prevalent even around 13.00 you could still see the beautiful town of Ljubljana.
During my walks I had seen on one menu ‘Fried Frog Legs’, looking at the picture without reading the name of the dish it looked like calamari but when I saw the name of the dish I almost tipped over but I was curious and wanted to see and taste 🙁 it for myself (the explorer and cultural appreciator in me).
I saw a lovely restaurant called Vodnikov Hram, I entered it and managed to make a friend – she is Italian and like me spontaneously booked a trip to Ljubljana for 24 hours. We decided to seat and eat together, people around us thought we had known each other for years but we had literally just met and it was so much fun. Another funny thing it turned out we had not only booked this trip spontaneously but we had also booked the same hotel (what a coincidence). We had a fun nice and now I have a friend to visit in Italy in January or February 2016.
Traveling has become such a huge part of my life it is becoming hard to imagine not traveling at least once a month, so I have decided to do the #Take12Trips challenge for 2016 and each month I will be taking at least one holiday. I am so excited about 2016 and I can not wait to see what The Lord has in store for me.

Wohoo another Wanderlust bitten Brit, Glad to e-meet you hun! I love travel and blog about it too. I love spontaneous trips and being a part of a Community if world travellers has helped not only fund most of my trips but some are ever Free yup! So love seeing new shores, making new friends and tasting new stuff..Frogs legs…I am yet to try. Chickened out several times. I see you havent shared what they taste like or whether you are the lot 🙂 I would be more than happy to share travel stories Miranda! Just curious how do you fund your travels…?
