Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).

{Travel} Weekend getaway to Milan ~ A wasted day

Weekend getaway to Milan, an Italian experience of a life time or was it? A few weeks ago a friend called and asked if I wanted to go away somewhere in Europe together. I had actually decided to put my #take12trips #travelchallenge on hold until after my driving lesson. Such an unexpected invite but a welcome one that I immediately said yes. We planned to go to Budapest, got a groupon deal and it was time to book the weekend getaway. Unfortunately (or fortunately) our preferred weekend was booked up for Budapest and we got offered Milan. It took a whole 2 minutes to decide that we would have a weekend getaway to Milan and check out Venice.

Milan ~ Lobster

Ever since my return from Johannesburg end of September and starting university, I have been everything stressed. I needed some relief but because I wanted to focus of my driving I couldn’t go anywhere. It was silly of me to want to put traveling on hold and glad this invite came along. I don’t like being stressed, I like being organised and on top of my work. It took me sometime to do my two university assignments, keep up with my job and also blog. Going away firstly to Milan then Venice was what the doctor ordered.

Our flight was Friday early morning, we’d both taken Fridays off work. Because we live far enough from Gatwick Airport we reserved a room close to the airport which offered airport transfer. Normally I wouldn’t book a hotel, I would sleep at the airport but because of our busy schedule I conceded. Thursday night my friend and I met up in London for drinks then went to hotel. We had an early wake up call (5:30am), we flew around 7am but our gate closed 6.30am so it was busy all round.

Though Milan is currently gloomy! It’s so nice to be here and see it for myself. • • • • #milan #italy #femaletravelbloggers #ejtraveller #travel #travelling #traveling #traveller #travelgram #travels #instatravel #traveldiaries #travelblogger #travelblog #traveladdict #igtravel #neverstopexploring #wanderlust #liveauthentic #lifeofadventure #natgeotravel #welltravelled #iamtb #searchfinddiscover #inspiringtravelpics

Landing in at Milan Malpensa, we boarded a bus to Milan centrale station which took less than an arrive to arrive. Upon arrival we had to take an underground train to Amendola where our hotel Best Western Astoria is located. With our groupon deal we had early check in, we decided to shower then rest up before heading out.

To Old for this Sh*t 🙂

Unfortunately for us, we were still hangover and hungry from the night before that we overslept the relaxation period. We realised after oversleeping that our livers can no longer handle alcohol the same way it did 2009-2013. We had:

  • Southern comfort with lemonade x 1 each
  • Blue lagoon cocktail x 1 each
  • The godfather cocktail (half/half)
  • Woo Woo (half/half)

This does not equate to much drinking or shall I say even compare to how much we used to put the alcohol industry afloat. But somehow just with that, coupled with tiredness and hunger woke up with hangover. We had ordered a snack at the hotel which I don’t recommend, expensive for nothing.

When we came too and where ready to explore it was dinner time and since it gets dark early it was too dark to explore. We had so many plans and though I know we wasted day sleeping I feel we also used it wisely. Because of the resting we had done, we have loads of energy to explore Venice and the Islands. I will be sharing all about that in the Venice post.

The best thing that came out of this wasted day was finding an amazing restaurant where I had my first lobster. What an experience, I must say I am loving Italians even more but just need the men to be a tab bit taller.

Love to travel, pin this.

Have you ever been to Milan? What did you manage to check out? I am looking for recommendations for when we go back and explore.

I had to laugh at your comment about the height of Italian men – they really are quite short, aren’t they?! Hope our next trip to Milan is more productive! x

When I traveled to Italy I ran out of time, so I couldn’t fit a stop to Milan in my schedule. I’ll have to make it happen the next time I’m there.
