Where to stay in Essaouira, Morocco

If you are planning a trip to Essaouira and looking for recommendations on where to stay in Essaouira, may I recommend Le Medina Essaouira Thalassa Sea & Spa MGallery a 5* hotel situated within a 2-minute walk from the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Medina and a stone throw away from the beach. I have been to Essaouira 4 times now and stayed in a couple of hotels ranging from 3* to 5* and I must admit that Le Medina Essaouira Thalassa Sea & Spa MGallery is one of my top 3 favorite hotels in the city.

Essaouira is the port city of Morocco and is located in the western region of the country on the Atlantic coast. The city of Essaouira is known as the windy city of Morocco because of the constant winds that engulf the city. Before actually staying at the Le Medina Essaouira Thalassa Sea & Spa MGallery, on our previous visit to Essaouira, we decided to book the ‘pool access’ and check out their main facilities that are open to the public (for a fee of course) and we knew we definitely wanted to sample the entire entrée.

Where to Stay in Essaouira, Morocco

When it comes to choosing where to stay in Essaouira, you will be spoilt for choice as there are so many incredible locations. Having visited the city a number of times, I know for a fact that there are only two locations I would consider and that is either (1) in the heart of the Medina or (2) by the beach, at least no more than 10 minutes walk. Being in the heart of the Medina, it’s vibrant, you get real close and personal with the locals and everything you need to know about the city is right in the Medina. If like me you enjoy visiting Essaouira to escape the British winters then definitely recommend somewhere by the beach like Le Medina Essaouira Thalassa Sea & Spa MGallery.

I must preface this by saying, Le Medina Essaouira Thalassa Sea & Spa MGallery is a 5* hotel which means it comes with a price tag but personally it is not as expensive as I thought it would be especially with the amenities that they offer. For full transparency, my travel buddy Caroline aka ‘TravelEatSlay‘ was gifted one night stay by the hotel and we paid for the remaining two nights. I was her guest, however, all opinions expressed are entirely my own and this is not a collaborative post but rather my personal review of the hotel and facilities. It has been a couple of months since our visit but the memory of our stay is as fresh as if we stayed there only yesterday.

Why Le Medina Essaouira Thalassa Sea & Spa MGallery?

I could give you a lot of reasons why we chose Le Essaouira Thalassa Sea & Spa MGallery but the most important one is that, we were looking for a ‘relaxing hotel that would give us a remarkable experience’ and the hotel definitely delivered on all fronts. As mentioned above, we had previously sampled what the hotel had to offer when we booked to use their pool which is donned with sun loungers and gives you the ‘atypical’ holiday vibe. After spending 4 hours sunbathing by the pool, we made the decision to stay at the hotel on our next visit and I am so glad we did.

Le Essaouira Thalassa Sea & Spa MGallery is located on the beach and is within walking distance of the most popular tourist attractions like the Medina and Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdallah Museum. The hotel has 117 rooms and suites, we stayed in one of their superior rooms with a sea view. They offer standard rooms, superior rooms with either a sea view or swimming pool view, and also offer suites. Our room had a balcony where we spent the nights watching the sunset, it could accommodate up to 3 people, and baby cribs were available upon request.

What did Le Medina Essaouira Thalassa Sea & Spa MGallery have to offer?

For a 5* hotel, there are so many things you expect to be available and we are glad that the majority of things we needed were made available to us during our stay. Our hotel room had two single beds, a desk area, a relaxation sofa, LCD TV, a mini bar, a safe, a room phone included in the bathroom and the toilet plus a fully functional aircon system. What really pulled this room together with the little touches from the art, the welcome fruit basket, the complimentary water provided daily as well as the look and feel of the soft sheets and beddings.

The hotel does offer laundry service for a fee similarly items in the mini bar are also for sale which is common for many hotels. We loved that they provided bathrobes and slippers that you could wear to the pool area where towels dedicated to the pool were made available to the guests and visitors. The hotel room overall was splendid, offered an amazing view of the ocean, and was soundproofed enough that you couldn’t hear the traffic outside although the occasion laughter in the hallway could be heard.

When I cast my mind back to my favourite part of the hotel, I would have to say it was the pool area as well as the entrance area of the hotel. I loved how private yet open the pool area was, there were enough sun loungers available for the guests and the staff was always on hand to help the guests with whatever you needed. The entrance of the hotel is absolutely mesmerizing and inviting, we spent many a good time appreciating this area as it was very zen and inviting. You can tell, they spent enough time of the decor to make sure it felt both welcoming and relaxing to the guests especially as you escaped the heat from the outside.

Hotel Services available to the guests

Hotels can often be distinguished from others based on the facilities and services available to their guests and I must stay Le Essaouira Thalassa Sea & Spa MGallery delivered what I often look for in a hotel and if you are looking for recommendations on where to stay in Essaouira then look no further. The pool both indoor and outdoor are some of the best features of the hotel, the indoor pool has a jacuzzi and whirlpool bath which is absolutely divine. Parking is available onsite, the hotel is wheelchair accessive, has an onsite restaurant as well as one on the beach, they offer meeting rooms and a well-being center. WiFi is accessible everywhere on the property including the pool area which as a blogger was ideal.

Other services that they offered included dry cleaning and ironing service, a porter, connecting rooms, and even offered currency exchange which is very handy for guests. Room service is available at an additional cost but this is atypical for many hotels however we did not utilize this service. The hotel also has an onsite gym and fitness room which offered massages and even a hammam all at an additional cost. There are so many wonderful things available to guests staying at the hotel and I hope in this post I have been able to convince you about where to stay in Essaouira.

As part of my end-of-year retreat, I chose to stay at an adult-only resort in Marrakech Morocco and it was the best decision I ever made. My love for all-inclusive adult-only hotels and resorts came from my visit to the Maldives a couple of years ago. As someone who often had a bias towards all-inclusive resorts for more reasons than I care to share, I didn’t realize how much I was missing out on until visiting the summer islands in the Maldives and now I am a true advocate for resorts. The all-inclusive resort that helped me change my tune about adult-only resorts is the TUI BLUE RIU TIKIDA GARDEN.Stay at an Adult-only Resort in Marrakech
