I am sure everyone is feeling the effects of the ‘cost of living crisis‘ and are looking at affordable activities you can do this autumn that won’t bleed your bank. Often, at least in the western world, we forget how blessed we are with so many ‘free or affordable’ things that we have around us. As the autumnal months continue to get colder every day, I thought of these 5 affordable activities you can do this autumn that won’t break the bank.
Whilst summer is my favourite season, autumn and Spring come in at close second as I love to layer up, enjoy the early morning crisp air that hits your cheek bones. Over the years, I have shared other autumnal activities you can do especially around the Oxfordshire area. In this post, the activities I am proposing, you do not need to be in Oxford to be able to do them, you can be anywhere in the country. Let me know in the comments section, what other affordable activities you can do this autumn.

5 Affordable Activities you can do this Autumn
This might sound weird but once of my most favourite thing about autumn is scrambling for that early morning son. I love seating in particular areas of my living room, blanket on, coffee and a good book in hand as I stare outside into the ether. There is something magical about that early morning sun that’s spent however long trying to fight through the clouds to shine and give us our door of vitamin D. There are so many wonderful and affordable activities you can do this autumn but I hope you will give my 5 a try if not done so already.
{1} Visit a Local Park
Your local park is underrated like many parks in the country, I am fortunate to have 2 near my home and every time I get an opportunity I go walk in the park. Our community is small so you often find the same people walking in the park or walking their dogs etc. Local parks to my knowledge are free and maybe you pay for parking but if you don’t live far, you can walk to the local park and release some energy and get fresh air.
{2} Find local walking trails
I had lived in my local village for over 7 years and I did not know we had some beautiful walking trails until 2020, the year of Rona. Since them I make a point of exploring this trails most weekends that I am home and not gallivanting to another country. Some local trails might require a bit of a drive to find the start/finish point but I highly recommend you research into local walking trails near you.
{3} Donate to a cause
Just as we all are feeling the effects of everything rising in costs, so are many organisations like charities who often rely on donations to continue supporting the community or the cause. You can donate to your local British Hear Foundation or you could consider *adopting a tiger instead, in our family we love visiting zoos and think this is a great way to give back.
{4} Visit Heritage Sites
Before 2020, I was a member of both National Trust and English Heritage and loved visiting the state homes and heritage sites that we are fortunate to have in this country. One of my favourite past time activities is, over the weekend, I would choose one heritage site I wanted to visit, would leave super early and be one of the first one scene as they open up. Being able to explore these incredible places before they got too crowded is my favourite past time. I am fortunate to have visited all the heritage sites in and around the Oxfordshire area.
{5} Play games at home
There are times where living the house is not a good idea, the last few days it has been chucking it down and has made much sense staying at home. Whilst I am not good at games (I only like snakes & ladders, monopoly and crazy 8), I find them to be the best way to spend time as home as a family. Sure you can cook, clean together or even watch movies but nothing beats a good board games with family and friends.
Like I said before, there are so many wonderful things you can do during the autumnal months, but in terms of affordable ones, these 5 are what comes to my mind. Let me know what other activities you can recommend.

We love visiting heritage parks and usually the entry fee is minimal, or sometimes its free! Volunteering at the local charity organization is also part of our family activities.

I like the idea of finding local trails to walk. There are often more of them around than you realize and almost all of them are cost free! The All Trails app has helped me find many.

I have been working from home since the pandemic started and have not been very good at taking breaks or taking walks. I find I am working way harder from home!

I love these ideas. You don’t have to go out and do expensive things to enjoy each other as a family.
