The perfume you wear tells so many stories about who you are. Depending on the fragrance you are rocking, you can create different impressions and allow others to take you differently. In many ways, perfumes are a lot like the fashion items you wear.
Unlike fashion items, however, not many people change the perfume they wear with the seasons, even when there are market trends and new fragrances being introduced regularly. The big question remains: should you switch your fragrance with the seasons? There are 5 reasons why the answer to that question is YES.
Different Weight
Perfumes designed for different seasons tend to have different characteristics. This is so the tones you get when wearing the perfume suit the occasion as well as the season in general. Unfortunately, perfumes designed for a season don’t always work when worn in other seasons.
The fragrances designed for winter, especially those with a spicy undertone, don’t always work when worn in the summer. The extra heat and the characteristics of summer as a season could make the same perfume a bit too strong for casual and semi-formal occasions, unlike the lighter summer perfumes.
Altered Mood or Theme
It is also not uncommon for perfumes to have a certain mood or theme to it. We all know how a citric undertone could make a perfume smell fun and exciting, while other scents like floral tones are more for a calmer theme.
By changing your perfume with the seasons, you have the ability to adjust the mood you are rocking accordingly. In fact, you can go a step further and pair certain perfumes with select outfits and looks. This creates an even longer lasting impression in others.
A Perfume for Every Activity
We tend to enjoy different things in different seasons. Winter is for staying warm indoors and enjoying a nice cup of cocoa. Summer, on the other hand, gives you plenty of opportunities to go outside and have tons of fun.
The activities you do alter the way perfumes release their layers of scents. Under the heat of the summer – and when you are sweating more – most perfumes reach their bottom layer sooner than usual. This means you can also adjust the perfume you wear based on what you’ll be doing most of the time.
Try New Scents
Getting that chance to try new fragrances is another great reason to change your perfume with the seasons. New perfumes are released frequently these days, especially now that designers and brands are focusing more on smaller, highly niched collections.
More Layers to Play With
One last great thing about changing your perfume with the seasons is having more fragrances to play with. You are not limited to just using one perfume or a particular scent. In fact, many people have their own signature fragrance from years of combining perfumes and layering tones.
You too can join the excitement and come up with a scent that’s uniquely you. Pick up a couple of new perfumes for the season and get started right away.

This sounds like a really good idea. There should be a scent for every season or every mood or activity. I usually have just once scent for a long time.

It’s interesting that we can get caught with certain fragrances because we just love them, but I do think switching it up can def. help with your mood at times.

Perfume is my weakness – I love the big and small perfume houses, I only tend to be picky with one ting: no synthetic perfume components for me!

all great reasons! I’ve also heard that you should switch it up every so often because your nose stops recognizing the scent and so you end up using more so you can smell it (but then others are overwhelmed by the extra spritzes)

I haven’t ever thought to change my perfume with the seasons but it really does make sense. I’ll have to give it a go as we soon make the transition into Autumn

I find that you really do need to change your fragrance according to the season. A summer scent is much different to a winter one. I find summer is for much lighter floral tones and winter you can get away with something a little heavier.
