Most bloggers would agree with my bold statement that ‘80% of blogging is promoting your content. You would be right in thinking research and creating content take time but no more than promotion. For every blog post, I write, I have a ritual that starts with research and ends continues with promoting content. The simple ritual has four steps;
- Research on the chosen topic
- Graphic preparation and content writing
- SEO optimization
- Publishing and continuous promotion
This ritual has served me well over the last couple of years, it is very simple but also very effective. Blogging as many can attest is not easy, it calls for hard work day in and out but it’s worth it. If I was to sit down and write down all the things that make it worth it, we would be here a while. I guess it is content for another day, for today, here are some ways to promote your content.

7 Ways to Promote your Content
You’ve just spent however long to research and write your content and have published. It is a great feeling to write content that you’re proud of and share it with the world. But not everyone will know that you’ve dropped some great content, they need to be informed of this. Here are 7 ways to promote your content;
Newsletter
I am sure everyone started over with their newsletters after GDPR passed in Europe. Your subscribers should have agreed to be informed of the content you publish. If they have, make sure to utilise this avenue to inform them of the new article. It is a great way to ensure your subscribers stay informed of all your articles you publish but do not spam them. You can look to send a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly newsletter with highlights of the articles you’ve shared.

Facebook Page and Groups
Every blogger is aware that Facebook is a great way to promote and drive traffic to your blog. Everyone uses Facebook for various reasons and it is a great tool to promote your content. One of the ways I use Facebook to drive traffic to my blog is by participating in threads in various groups. Join Bloggers 2 Brands, a Facebook group dedicated to supporting bloggers.
Another way you can utilise Facebook is by creating a page for your website and promoting content. For my blog A July Dreamer, I created a Facebook page with the same name; A July Dreamer. This way it makes it easier to associate the content on my page to my blog.

Twitter is not only a great way to connect with brands but a great tool for promoting your content. It is a fast-paced social media and therefore calls for a fast-paced way of promoting content. Personally I mix and match the content that I share on twitter but I promoted 8-12 times a day.
Content on Twitter has a way of reaching more readers than Facebook and not necessarily your own. If any of your followers retweet your content, their retweet is exposed to their followers too. And this is how many people are then able to read your content and drive traffic to your website.

Another way to promote it to a wider audience is by using Instagram and sharing content. The trick with Instagram is not only adding the link to your latest post but to add to your feed and stories. For those with over 10k followers, they have the ability to add a link into the Instagram stories.
One thing I suggest when utilising Instagram to promote your content is to use the same graphics. Find one or two graphics from your post that you can upload to Instagram. Make sure to use the relevant hashtags to reach an even bigger audience.

Google+
Google is one of the biggest search engines that everyone uses every day but Google+ is different. To make Google+ work for you and drive traffic you need to share your posts to the groups and communities.
Google+ works because it is part of Google but also tagging relevant brands helps. Depending on your blogging platform you can configure your content to be auto-published.
One of the biggest drivers of traffic to my website is Pinterest and you can make it as such a tool. Like Instagram, Pinterest is all about the best graphics and using the right keywords. No one will know if your content is good enough but the graphic is enough to draw them in.
For every post, have a minimum of two Pinterest sharable images in the post. Make sure the ATL text is populated and added text with hashtags to your pins. The pinnable image has to be easy to read and relevant to the topic. It is also helpful to have a theme to your pins so they can easily be associated with your website.
When it comes to promoting my content on Pinterest I use the Tailwind App which allows me to schedule content. I always use it for every content that I want to share on Pinterest, use my affiliate link to sign up.

Guest Posting
Whilst guest posting does not necessarily drive traffic to one specific post, it can drive traffic to the entire site. And you never know who of the new readers might be a fan and want to stay to read other posts.
Guest posting allows for your website to be exposed to a new audience either in same niche or others. This is a great way to promote your website’s content and gain new readers in the long run.
There are many other ways you can promote your content and drive traffic to your website. As I mentioned blogging is hard work but there are Blogging Tools that make it bearable.
One important thing that you shouldn’t be forgotten is, whilst self-promotion is essential in the blogging world, it is important to also share other people’s content that is relevant to your niche. The blogging community is all about being supportive and this is one way you can be supportive.
