Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing 🤨
1988 - 9 months, (Chililabombwe, Zambia) although my mother looks tired and traumatised😟, I know I was loved and happy.

{Beauty} Summer WishList

Summer Wishlist

It is weird to be thinking I am writing a summer wishlist when summer is way underway and we have been enjoying it for almost a month now but that has not deterred me from making a beauty summer wishlist as it is never too late to create a wishlist. Summer 2015 had so much potential when it started and do not get me wrong it still does but lately I had just been feeling very low and wanting a pick me up or better yet a holiday or a mini-getaway as soon as possible.

Having a mini-getaway seemed more possible than an actual holiday as so much needs to be done before that can happen and well we all only have 24 hours in a day so there is only so much that I can do. I did mention in my July goals that I wanted to have at least 2 mini trips abroad and 2 trips within the UK, when July was underway this seemed to be impossible due to actions beyond my control but here today I can not believe I have actually accomplished that. I am going on another mini break so I thought I put together 3 beauty items that I need to include or better yet wish to take with me on this getaway.

After-sun cream – it is summer so it does make sense to think about what after-sun products I should carry with me on my summer mini-getaways or even my summer vacations. I have been scouring the net and I am loving the sound of CARITA‘s Smoothing and Repairing After-Sun Cream for Face, who doesn’t love a good cream that “corrects the effects of time and restructure mature skin after sun exposure prolonging your tan“. I know boo loves it when his tan lasts a little bit longer so this would be a welcome addition for him and for me too.

UV Protecting fluid – I know most of us are worried about sun exposure and the effects that can have on our skin, no one wants to hear that they have the C word because they did not protect themselves well enough when they were in the summer. It is good to know that companies like Creme de la Mer have made a UV protecting fluid which is engineered to transform the UV light into green light to help enhance the antioxidant activity by preventing skin discolouration and unevenness. It’s bad enough naturally having two skin tones so adding on skin discolouration to the mix will just dampen the mood so I am happy to have found such a lovely cream which I am recommend to all who are in my position.

Make-up (with SPF) – I am not a big makeup wearer but I do love to dabble into it now and again. During this summer my aim is to use make-up which contains SPF in it. There are so many brands out there that are making products with SPF protection included to reduce the amount of products one has to use to ensure they are protecting their skin even with the highs of summer upon us. As I said I am not great with make-up but Urban Retreat has a lot of great brands that can provide you with all makeup products that contain SPF to protect your skin and at the same time save you money.

What beauty items do you (or would you) include in your mini-getaway bag?

Do you have a summer wishlist?

I have far too much on my summer wish list to even post about it haha. I’ve never heard of the UV Protecting fluid before but it is far too expensive!

It’s a definite welcome change, reduces the amount of products when have to subject our faces (+bodies) to.

I’m in desperate need of a mini gateway. Sadly I can’t go in a holiday this year but that doesn’t stop me from using sunscreen. It’s a must for me.

I kind of felt the same as you did. Felt in need of a pick me up. We are headed to the beach next week and I am interested in the After Sun Cream. Never thought of using a product for after being in the sun. Thanks for the advice!

Great beauty wishlist, I always buy products that have SPF as it is so much healthier for your skin to absorb and any coverage against UV rays is better than none.

That is so true, any coverage is better than none. I only recently started getting more serious about products with SPF in them
