Chastleton House Oxfordshire is an ancient and rare Jacobean country house filled with 400 years of Jones family history. Located near Moreton-in-Marsh in Chastleton, the house was built between 1607 and 1612 for Walter Jones. Prior to being entrusted to the National Trust in 1991, the house has been in the Jones family for centuries before it was passed down to the Whitmore-Jones.
The Chastleton House Oxfordshire is a place described as ‘preserved as it is, not as it was’. The exterior of the house betrays the house interior which is fragile and ancient and time has gradually taken its toll. Whilst the gardens are in full bloom and alluring with a 400-year-old tree, the rest of the house is slowly yielding. What we loved about the property were the gardens perfect place on the estate to enjoy a picnic.

Chastleton House Oxfordshire
Unlike most NT properties but most closely resembling Charlecote Park, Chastleton House is smaller in size but depicts the wealth during the reign of King James I. One thing that is outstanding about the property is just how well it has been preserved and the history that lies in its walls.
We loved that Chastleton House Oxford shire is different not only in size but in character and charm. As National Trust members, we love nothing more than exploring the NT properties, the estate and tucking into afternoon tea. Charleston House, however, does not have its own tea room but boasts a cute and quint book store.
What is different about Chastleton is the opening time, the house and grounds are open from 1 pm. And on the days the house is open, the church next door serves teas and cake. Parking is free and there is a 5-minute steep hill walk from the reception to the house.
