The Danube River is the second largest river in Europe running through 11 countries. It flows from the Black Forest to Black Sea covering over 1700 miles across Europe. I was fortunate to see the Danube River from my visits to Vienna in Austria and Bratislava in Slovakia. Most recently I visit Budapest in Hungary where I took a night boat cruise. Napoleon once described the Danube River as the ‘Queen of European Rivers‘ and honestly it’s not hard to see why. If you’re ever in any of the 11 countries this river crosses, make sure to take a cruise. The experience alone is enough to have me reminiscing about the beauty on its Banks.
Cruising on the Danube River in Budapest
Taking a cruise on the Danube River was one of the most exciting experiences of my recent visit to Budapest. If you’re ever in Budapest but short on time and want to see lots then cruising is the best way. I go as far as claiming that cruising on the Danube River fueled my passion for Cruising on the Thames River. Whilst cruising on a river is nothing compared to cruise across the Atlantic I think it definitely is a start. I am not even looking to book a cruise to explore more cities across Europe.
What I loved about cruising on the Danube at night was the amazing views it offered. I am sure during the best it is just as spectacular but I feel as though the night adds more romance to it. I got to explore the banks of Buda and of Pest all in one night all within 90 minutes. As much as I love my hop on and hop off bus tours, I also feel the cruising gives you a different view of popular sights.
During the cruise I was able to cross off some of the items we’d listed on our Budapest itinerary and some we found on foot. Amongst others, we were able to see; The Chain Bridge, Parliament, Margaret Island and Elizabeth Bridge.

I have been to Budapest many times but I have never took a cruise on the Danube. Mostly because I was alone. I was tempted many times by those cruises with dinner and music included but they require at least 2 people joining.
