Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing 🤨
1988 - 9 months, (Chililabombwe, Zambia) although my mother looks tired and traumatised😟, I know I was loved and happy.

Delightful Dinner at No.1 Ship Street Oxford

At the beginning of July, we were invited to enjoy a delightful dinner at No.1 Ship Street, a brasserie situated in the heart of Oxford. Having already had the opportunity to sample some of its best dishes from it A La Carte menu, we were excited to try out the seasonal menu. We learned during our first visit that No.1 Ship Street Brasserie puts together a seasonal and local produce menu on the first Wednesday of the month.

As the first Wednesday in August approaches, I thought now was the perfect time to inform both Oxfordians and tourists about this once a month menu shakeup. No.1 Ship Street Brasserie is not only an award-winning restaurant but one of our most favourite Oxford eateries. Located along ship street, the Brasserie is located not far from Oxford’s iconic Sheldonian Theatre and sits behind our favourite bookstore Waterstone.

Delightful Dinner at No.1 Ship Street Oxford

Eating in and around Oxford is always fun but our delightful dinner at No.1 Ship Street was something to remember. The local produce and seasonal menu were priced at £35 this includes a 3-course meal but drinks were not included. When you add the drinks, the cost per person is approximately £45 which a fairly good price for eateries in Oxford. What we love about No.1 Ship Street is you’re informed of where the ingredients came from.

The menu consisted of lamb which was bought from The Cotswolds Game and Meat company, a company located in Gloucestershire. Bonners is the company used for the fruits and vegetables and has a stall in The Covered Market. The covered market is a historic market in central Oxford which permanent stores and shops, it is located a stone throw away from the restaurant. Below is the menu we sampled and absolutely enjoyed.

Three-Course Menu – £35.00 per person
Starter
WILD SEA TROUT TARTAR
crispy egg yolk, pea pancake, sea vegetables {salty fingers}
Main
LOIN OF COTSWOLD MILK & GRASS-FED LAMB
potato fondant, onion puree, pickled baby turnip, lamb jus
Dessert
STRAWBERRY & PISTACHIO MILLE FEUILLE
lemon sorbet

When No.1 Ship Street informed us of the first Wednesday of the month special, we knew we couldn’t resist. We booked a table for 2 for 7 pm which seemed to be a perfect time as the restaurant was buzzing but not overly busy. As we already knew what we wanted, we informed the staff and within 20 minutes we drinks and our starter which was mouth-watering. What was funny was the starter looked too good we didn’t wanna spoil it.

The loin of lamb was cooked to perfection, a month on and I stick salivate thinking of the amazing dish. We thought the potato fondant was a creative idea that seemed to blend well with lamb. I am not a fan of turnips and often avoid them but this time I polished them off my plate with a big smile The portion size of the mains was absolutely perfect, though I wouldn’t have minded a second offering if it were possible.

I often joke that no matter how full I might be, I always have room for dessert because I infect have 2 stomachs. As an adult, I can not recall such a time were I refused dessert, it’s just not the done thing. Since both the starter and mains had both taken a creative move I was excited about the dessert. It definitely did not disappoint and was the perfect sweet treat to compliment the meal.

I am so glad we had the opportunity to taste out the July seasonal and local produce menu, we are excited to see what the August menu has to offer. Whilst our first collaboration with No.1 Ship Street was complimentary, this visit was not. I believe in putting my money where my mouth is, it is a lovely restaurant serving up some of the best dishes I Oxford. It is a perfect location for lunch or dinner dates, girl catch-up and much more.

We had such a delightful dinner at No.1 Ship Street and can not recommend it enough to all Oxfordians and tourists. Make sure to check out their website for upcoming events and to book your visit. We highly recommend checking out the seasonal and local produce menu every first Wednesday of the month.
