HOW TO SPEND A DAY IN ZAGREB

Are you visiting Zagreb soon but are short on time? I have visited the Croatian capital many times and can share a few ways to spend a day in Zagreb. When it comes to the touristy areas in Zagreb, the area is pretty small and can be completed in a day and if pushed for time in half a day.

The Croatian capital is often overlooked for more seaside cities like Dubrovnik and Split. But I recommend that on your next Croatian adventures, you allocate a day to explore the gorgeous city of Zagreb. The city has both the charm and the history and surprisingly a busy pace.

The places mentioned in this post are those that I have visited many times and are a great representation of the city. All my visits have been longer than a day but because of work, I often only have a day to be a tourist. We hope these tips on how to spend a day in Zagreb will be useful.

HOW TO SPEND A DAY IN ZAGREB

Zagreb is a pretty easy city to navigate on foot or even cycle but if all else fails, there is always uber. The first time I arrived in the city, I met a charming taxis driver who drew me and walking map from my boutique apartment. Though there were parts that I wish I had been informed about previsouly, I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Depending on your mode of transportation, the city of Zagreb is located 15 kilometres from Zagreb airport. There are several ways to travel from the airport to the city; bus including airport transfer, drive, taxis or uber. During all my visits to the city, I have taken private taxis or uber and spent less than 150 kuna but buses are much cheaper at 40 kuna return.

Must See Places in Zagreb when Short on Time

As a frequent traveller, I am always in search of ways that can help me maximise my travels. Whenever I have a long layover or just a day to spend in a city, I make a point of searching for places of interest. This helps me narrow down places that I want to see the most and things I want to experience.

Whenever I travel to Zagreb, there a few places that I visit often because they are worthy of a visit. For those with just under 6 hours to spare, I would recommend taking a city tour bus for sightseeing. This way, you can see all the famous attractions with comfort then choose a couple to explore further.

For those considering taking a sightseeing bus, the first stop is located at the cathedral. If arriving from the airport, I would take an uber to the cathedral than public transport.

St Mark’s church

The capital’s monument located in St. Mark’s square with other government buildings. It a must visit church, the Aztec design on the roof is the major attraction of the church.

ZAGREB CATHEDRAL

Located about 20 minutes walk from St. Mark’s church, this 13th-century cathedral is free to enter and is a magnificent place of worship. Another great place to explore in Zagreb especially those on a budget.

DOLAC MARKET

One of the biggest farmer’s markets in Zagreb, located a stone throw away from the cathedral. The market is where everything happens, its a place for social interactions whilst nibbling on the best fruits.

For those with more time, you can explore the city centre and tuck into some gelato. Though Zagreb seems to be a fast-paced city, it does have slow paces started around the city. Within the city limits are botanical gardens where locals and tourist alike can relax.
