When it comes to searching for affordable day trips from Zagreb, get your guide is the best place to start. Zagreb is a fascinating city with UNESCO heritage sites but I believe its true beauty lies outside the city limits. Having visited the Croatian capital on many occasions and explored in length, I wanted to do something different.
I decided to search for affordable day trips from Zagreb that I can take especially since I am limited on time. Zagreb, the largest city in Croatia located in the northwest and the country’s capital city rich in culture and history. What I love about Zagreb is its proximity to other beautiful towns and cities where locals and tourists alike love to escape to for a day trip.

Benefits of Day Trips
As a travel addict, I am often always in search of ways to maximise my travels but realise financial constraints stops most of us. It is for this reason why I decided to maximise my travels by going on day trips within the UK and Europe. I decided to use weekends and fewer vacations days for spontaneous day trips.
For many years I refused to travel to Europe for a day, I felt it was not enough time to truly know the city. But our recent Prague Group with #traveleatslay completely changed my thinking and now I can not recommend it enough. Some of the benefits I personally experienced included:
- Save up on vacation days – leave them for a rainy day or longer trip
- Save money on hotels and daily expenditures and sometimes flights.
- Make use of your limited time
- Teaches you to plan wisely
- It’s good for your health
- Less packing
- Convenience

Affordable Day Trips From Zagreb
The Croatian capital is a gem of a city filled with cobblestoned streets, beautiful cathedrals and bustling markets. No visit to this enchanting capital is complete without seeing the famous St Mark’s church.
Zagreb is a gorgeous and cheap metropolitan city with one of the best public transport which is why I love it. I found a lot of affordable day trips from Zagreb using public transport and was impressed by how cheap it was. Below I am sharing 4 affordable day trips from Zagreb.
Lake Bled
Lake Bled has to be one of my favourite places to visit in Slovenia, no matter how many times I visit, I always find something new to love about. The trip from Zagreb takes over 2 hours but most of this journey time is spent passing board control.

Ljubljana
The Slovenia capital is another one of my most favourite places to visit in Slovenia, I have been many times and still love it. The journey time is over an hour, border control takes time but still quicker and more affordable to drive.

Samobor
This medieval town is located 20 meters from Zagreb and is part of the Zagreb metropolitan. Samobor is a hikers dream with the oldest and the most attractive tourist destination. I can not recommend the town enough, it is almost a food lovers dream

Plitvice Lakes
Though I have not yet been, it is on my bucketlist, Plitvice Lakes is one of the most famous forest reserves in Croatia. There any many affordable tours that do a return trip from Zagreb to Plitvice Lakes.
I am excited about my next trip back to Zagreb so I can do more day trips from the Croatian capital. What are your thoughts on day trips? Is it something you would invest time and money in?
Have you ever been to Zagreb or any of the places mentioned in the post?
