Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing 🤨
1988 - 9 months, (Chililabombwe, Zambia) although my mother looks tired and traumatised😟, I know I was loved and happy.

How to spruce up your home for season change

As the Spring season approaches, I had a thought, how to spruce up your home for season change. For as long as I can remember, I have made it my mission to always spruce up my home for every season change because I feel every season calls for a spruce of some kind. It could be something as big as replacing furniture or as small as changing up the pillows. Ever since I became a homeowner, I pay special attention to season changes and act accordingly.

This year, as Spring approaches, I have already thought of a couple changes I want to make to my home and I thought I share with those needing ideas of how to spruce up your home for the season change. Now, like I mentioned already, sprucing one’s home can be a big thing or a small but impactful changes. Personally, I am thinking of small changes around my home and potentially one big change ready for spring and I cover majority of those changes in this post.

*Disclosure – This is a collaborative post, all opinions shared are my own.

How to Spruce Up Your Home for Season Change

Depending on the regional of the world you live in, you might be preview to either four seasonal changes or two seasonal changes. In the UK I sometimes feel like we only have two but we do in fact enjoy all four seasonal changes; winter, spring, summer and autumn. Of these fall seasons, my favourite has to be winter into Spring and this is why I am excited to share tips on how to spruce up your home for season change.

Sprucing up your home can be as cheap or as expensive as you make it, like I said already, mine will be a mixture of both because this is something I budgeted for and something I need in and outside my home. The first change and or spruce I am going to make to my home is on my deck which is one area of my home that needs the most help. Not only am I need of new deck chairs, I am also after *Coffee Tables* to complete the look that I envision for the outdoor part of my home.

Getting my windows cleaned is another way I spruce up my home, I have taken it in stride over the last 6 years of homeownership in that every season change I make a point of ensuring that my windows are cleaned both indoors and outdoors. When seasons are changing from winter to spring and autumn to winter, I like go hire someone to give the outer side of my windows cleaned. I finding spring to summer my windows are often fine and don’t need that intense cleaning session that I am often after during the aforementioned seasonal changes.

Trimming the garden from winter into Spring is just the best thing ever, getting rid of the dead plants and clearing the path for the new growth is something I love doing for my garden. This year I intend to do it myself instead of hiring someone as a few years back I invested in machinery that I can use to maintain my own garden. I think sometimes it’s just nice to have someone do the garden clearing for you but I also find it very therapeutic when I do it myself and I intend to do that this time round.

Replacing the curtains around the house is another way one to spruce up their home. Every single change I get my curtains cleaned by my local dry cleaners especially my French door curtains as those are too long and big for my own washing machine and local laundromat does a better job. And changing the curtains going together with cleaning the windows, before replacing the curtains, you ensure the windows are cleaned and new curtains don’t get dirty from the dust already on the windows hence why I make a point of doing these two cleaning activities together.

Changing seat covers and pillow covers, if you are anything like me, you might be particular about your seat covers. They go through a lot and I make a point of ensure I change them not only when the season is changing but when they need changing. At season change, I like to take some time to look at my seat covers as I am changing the pillow covers to make sure I am not adding clean pillows covers to dirty seat covers. I am so particular about mine that I make a point of spot cleaning across the heat so that the stains to stay there until season change.

There are many other ways that you can spruce up your home, I include trimming my indoor plants and changing the soil when needed. In preparation for spring, I am also planning a deep clean of my home as well as decluttering my entire home, an activity I try to do every 6-8 weeks for clothes and 3-4 months for home items.
