Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing 🤨
1988 - 9 months, (Chililabombwe, Zambia) although my mother looks tired and traumatised😟, I know I was loved and happy.

Preparing my Bedroom for Autumn

PR Sample

When it comes to preparing my bedroom for Autumn, I didn’t have to think too hard about what items I wanted to incorporate or better yet upgrade in my bedroom. I am a self-diagnosed insomniac and I make a point of ensuring that my bedroom is a sanctuary that I can fall asleep in easily. This year, I have had the great pleasure of collaborating with the brand Simba again which is now a constant feature in my home. Having collaborated in the past, I was excited to work together again as I began preparing my bedroom for autumn.

Whenever the season changes, I often look at what changes I need to make in my home but more especially my bedroom as I spend the majority of the time there. Outside of the living room, my bedroom is my sanctuary that I take great pride in, and love making changes that not only reflect my mood but also provoke a sense of calmness and relaxation. As I work on preparing my bedroom for Autumn, I thought of several items that I will be adding or have added to my room to make it that much more inviting so much so that it’s been a struggle the last few weeks leaving my bed.

*Disclosure: This is a collaboration post however, all opinions shared are my own.

Preparing my Bedroom for Autumn

As a summer baby, I am not a fan of cooler or even colder months (for good reason), and it’s one of the many reasons why I spend an unhealthy amount of time trying to find ways to stay warm, cozy, and toasty in my home. My friends and family often joke that my home is like an oven because it is always warm regardless of the season and it’s the one place they want to be when the days start getting cooler. I take pride in my toast oven and go out of my way (financially and otherwise) to make sure that it remains that way because I am not a fan of the cold at all.

There are several things I can add to my home to make it look not only cozy but keep myself warm and toasty too but for this post, I will limit it to a couple of my go-to items that I highly recommend. I try not to complicate it too much or spend too much money but monies do need to be spent for some of these items especially if you don’t already have them in your home.

Pillows and Mattress Protectors

Every bedroom has pillows and a mattress, but does your pillow and your mattress have a protector on them other than duvet and pillowcase covers? For the longest time, I only cared about protecting my mattress, I remember as a kid visiting other family members and seeing them keep the plastic the mattress came in as a sort of protector. It made sense to want to protect the mattress but somehow that never extended to pillows until I started living away from home and started investing in protectors for my pillows and mattresses to increase their longevity.

Recently, I was fortunate to have been sent the pillow and double mattress protectors for my bedroom and it came as I was preparing my bedroom for autumn which made me happy. Like I said, some items I will recommend you might need to spend money on if you don’t have them or if you looking to update what you already have. For me, it was the latter, I had two large bedrooms with double mattresses but only had one mattress protector, but now I have two and don’t have to worry about protecting my mattress anymore. The one thing I will say about my mattress protector is comfortable it is on my foam mattress which I love.

Seasonal Bedding

Over the last couple of years, I have built up quite a collection of bedding that I can rotate around the year and I love it for me. The only season I don’t seem to particularly care for changing my beddings is the ‘Christmas season’ which is weird to me as I love Christmas but I just don’t gravitate towards Christmas beddings. I will change my bedding to red during the festive periods but it’s a type of red that I can use any time of the year which is why I love it for me.

For the autumn months, I have already changed my bedding to burnt orange bedding, there is just something about the pumpkin season that I love. However, I have not gone as far as changing my curtains to match the season as I have not found ‘black-out curtains’ that I like. If you are looking to spruce up your bedroom then try changing up the bedding and cushions that you currently have to something seasonal that uplifts your mood.

Fall Decor

Again, I am not too big on decor but right now, my home of littered with pumpkins of all sizes and colours which I love. I don’t often still to a particular style of colour when it comes to pumpkin decors, I love them all and am currently hunting for a ‘gold coloured’ pumpkin. Other decor I am adding include monochromatic books that add style to a space. This time, I am not adding real plants as I don’t have much light in my bedroom so we are sticking with fake plants that still add a rizz to the room without hurting the budget.

The last pieces of fall decor I want to add to my room as I continue preparing my bedroom for autumn are art pieces and motivational quotes in autumnal colours. I love having some form of art in my home but not too much, right now I have an art piece that I keep year-round but no motivational quotes so possibly need to add a couple of them but not sure what at the moment, recommendations are welcome.
