How to turn your home into a relaxing sanctuary
After spending so much time at home, I am sure like me many people have formed a routine that promotes relaxation. Even though I work from home doesn’t mean I start work early because that is the fastest way to burn the candle from both ends. I have incorporated some relaxation routines from that make me happy from the time I wake up until I go to be. These routines start with getting up early, making a cup of coffee and sitting where the sun is shinning and read my book for the first hour of the day. This often sets the tone for the rest of the day.
In the past year, our work and home lives have seamlessly blended into one. It’s estimated that 45% of us now work from home. Whilst it’s nice to be able to roll out of bed and be at your desk without sitting in rush-hour traffic, it’s important to be able to separate your home and work life. To help you create a sanctuary where you want to spend time after 5pm, we’ve put together our top tips to create a peaceful home. Let us know in the comments section your tips for how to turn your home into a relaxing sanctuary especially how you did it.
Choose colours that make you feel good
Much like wearing clothes that make us feel good – your home is no different. When considering how to decorate your home, opt for colours that promote calmness and tranquility. For bathrooms, going for a green or blue bathroom paint will have a soothing effect. Similarly, whilst a little bolder, yellow is a mood booster and can raise your energy levels, making you feel happy and cheerful.
Use candles and aromatherapy
No spa worth its salt would be seen without delightful smelling candles and aromatherapy, so why should your home?
To replicate the just-been-to-the-spa sense of calm, fill your home with well-chosen scented candles. Scents can have positive effects on your mood, reduce stress and even improve sleep and cognitive performance. So, if there is ever a better excuse to splurge on candles, this is it.
If you’d prefer something a little different, you can even invest in an oil diffuser to burn essential oils and lift your mood.
Adopt some plant-friends
Over the past year, plant sales have boomed by up to 500% – and for good reason. Having plants in your home can help reduce stress and anxiety. They also clean and purify the air, which is good news for allergy and asthma sufferers. Don’t forget to regularly water and mist them though – there’s nothing tranquil about a dying house plant.
Personalise your décor
Having uplifting décor throughout your home can make you feel cozy, safe and comfortable. When the stresses of modern get tough, it’s important to be able to sit back and relax in a home that you love. Consider hanging pictures of your family or artwork that nods to your favourite movie.
For an extra dose of coziness, why not hang some string lights to create a warm, relaxing atmosphere?
You can even accessorise with your favourite textures and fabrics, perfect for sinking into after a long day.
Working from home definitely has its perks, but it’s important to be able to separate your home and personal life for your productivity and mental health. By keeping to a strict working schedule and making some small changes to your home to promote calmness, you can continue to enjoy the best of both worlds.
