British summer is finally upon us and now is the best time to reset your bedroom for summer. As a summer-born baby, there is no season I love more than summer, and as the weather has finally improved I am excited to reset not only my bedroom but my entire home. Every single month, I reset my home in readiness for the new month but often forget to do this when seasons change but no more.
As a ‘self-diagnosed’ insomniac, I have often said, that my home is my sanctuary and my bedroom is my zen, a place of peace, tranquility, and rest. As someone who works from home, I take pride in ensuring my home is my peace of zen and I often joke with friends and colleagues that ‘you can’t stress me in my own home’ and it’s true. I have gone to extreme lengths to ensure my home is my happy place and my bedroom my zen place that I escape to.

Reset your Bedroom for Summer
I am sure everyone is excited for the summer months, summer is one of my favourite seasons of the year, there is so much to do and the dose of vitamin D just adds to the fun. I am excited to do all the activities my family and I have planned, the road trips we will embark on, and the friends we will meet and make during the summer break. To make sure that your summer is an enjoyable one, you need to also make sure to reset your bedroom for summer as it’s another place you will be spending the majority of your time.
I remember my summers as a kid, I love nothing more than exploring new places with my friends and trying new things. I wasn’t questioning ‘what is deep sleep’ (something I seem to be doing a lot of lately), but I guess that’s the side effect of getting older. Another thing I wasn’t thinking about as a kid was what state I left my bedroom in because whenever I returned, someone had fixed it for me likely (if I even noticed). As I have grown older, I take pride in the state of my home, especially my bedroom, and this is why I am sharing tips on how to reset your bedroom for summer.
1. Declutter
One thing you should know about me is that I declutter my home every 6 weeks and during those times I start with my bedroom and end with the kitchen. I try to make sure every single inch of my home has at least received a minimum of 2 decluttering sessions a year. My friends often ask me if I have clothes in storage because I just seem to have so little and it’s not because I am a minimalist (almost I enjoy the sentiment). The truth of the matter is, I enjoy a good declutter, and as Maria Kondo says, if it’s not bringing you joy, get rid of it so I do.
Take time to go throw everything in your bedroom and decide which items to keep, donate, or bin. I often start with my clothes including anything that is in the washing basket, I check what still fits, what I like, what I wear often, and what needs to be replaced. Because I declutter so often, I don’t often find items that I need to bin but when I do I add to the list of ‘replace’ especially if I love it enough.

2. Change your duvet
I am more a duvet girl than standard blankets, when I was young I was addicted to my blankets then I got introduced to duvets and I never looked back. I have duvets year round the only difference is the size of my duvet and recently I was sent a Summer Hybrid Duvet by *Simba which is only a 4.5 Tog duvet with an optimum level of down-like comfort to soothe you to sleep in warmer months. This is the lightest duvet I have ever used in my life, I think my summer duvet is 10 Tog which I thought was light but compared to the Simba, Summer Hybrid Duvet, 10 Tog is quite heavy.
What I love about the Simba hybrid duvet is that ‘it features Simba’s Renew Bio™ fill and Stratos® ‘cool-touch’ technology, which comes together to offer a fresher sleep whatever the season. Over the last couple of nights, I have had the pleasure of trying out this duvet and I have not been disappointed. It’s lightweight, I didn’t wake up sweating as I do with my 10Tog duvet (or other sizes for that matter) and I love the size of the duvet. I didn’t have to get new duvet covers because my standard covers fit like a glove and I was amazed by it. The material is soft, the cotton covers just make it even more special and especially soft to the touch.
3. Add Plants
For many years I couldn’t keep a single plant alive and then 2020 happened and all of a sudden I have green fingers. I took time to learn about each of the plants I purchased, paying attention to the type, how often they need water and their plant food, and finding the perfect mix between shade and sun. Having plants around the house has changed the feel and vibe of my home and even my bedroom gets a treat of its flowers that I love.
Adding plants to your room not only makes it look cute, it cleans the air and can change one’s mood. I love staring at my orchids and a few other pieces that I have in the home. Whilst I am not a fan of fake plants, I know they can be good for those suffering from allergies and such.
4. Dust, Hoover & Change Sheets
No reset is complete without dusting up the surfaces in your room including the window seal, cupboard tops as well as drawers. I make a point of dusting all my countertops, drawers, and even the hidden places that I often neglect. Once done with dusting, I move over to hoovering my room which is something I quite enjoy and of late I am thinking about investing in a hoover that can get rid of dog hairs and pick up tiny hairs from the carpet.
Changing the bed sheets is something I do weekly, often on Sundays I reset my home for the new week, I strip all the beds to allow them to air before I change the sheets. Over the years, I have built up quite a nice collection of bed sheets from simple plain but colourful bed sheets to my favourite floral patterns ever. It is so easy to reset your bedroom for summer and I hope my tips are helpful to you, please share below your tips on how you reset your bedroom for summer or better yet every day and week,
