As a frequent traveller and travel blogger, I love nothing more than sharing tips and tricks that can make your life much easier. Recently I got asked how I manage to stay healthy when travelling and if I follow any fitness plan. The simple answer is I don’t have a specific fitness plan but I go for long walks and do crunches when I can. As for how I stay healthy when travelling, it is simple, I have 7 simple rules that I follow on almost all trips.
A few years ago, I made a personal decision to be more conscious of what I am putting in my body and more especially when I travel. As a travel blogger, I am always on the go and often choose quick and easy foods which are often unhealthy. This year thanks to The Restored, I realised the only way I can achieve my goal of being healthier is by ensuring I have a solid foundation in health, you’re only as strong as your weakest link.
How To Stay Healthy When Travelling with The Restored
At the beginning of summer, I shared an updated bedtime routine which I put together after undertaking a health evaluation with The Restored. Thanks to this evaluation, I was able to evaluate areas of my life that were lacking and started working on them for a healthier me. Because I spend more time travelling than at home, it made sense to share tips on how I stay healthy when travelling and how I have incorporated The Restored products into my routine.
Stay Hydrated
Those who know me, know that I suck at drinking unflavoured water and knowing this, I made sure to always travel with flavoured water. This doesn’t have to be expensive, it is more easy now to infuse fruits into drinks. Other times I just travel with juice and dilute it into my water to give it some taste. I never travel without a water bottle and over the years I have invested in good quality water bottles which are not only useful but cute looking too.
Sun Protection
When I was young, someone told me that because I am a person of colour, I did not need to worry about sun protection. This obviously is misinformation and I am glad I did not listen and instead always make a point of wearing sun protection especially when I am travelling. Sun protection should not only be reserved for sunnier months but throughout the year too. I always travel with SPF-50 during summer months and SPF-30 during the colder months.
Take The Restored Supplements
For as long as I can remember I have taken various supplements but mostly probiotics and vitamins. Leaving in the UK, we are often short of on a good dose of vitamin D from sun exposure so I often take these supplements instead. Recently I changed up my game and focused more on taking multivitamins which is what The Restored evaluation recommended. The recent addition to the supplements cupboard is The Restored Triple Strength Omega 3 the only certified fish oil with Astaxanthin has no ‘fishy’ aftertaste and no padding ingredients.
The Restored Triple Strength Omega-3 has no heavy metals, is sustainably sourced, is palatable, is natural, is vitamin E enriched, no GMO and gluten-free. I have taken omega-3 supplements before in the past and the main reasons I stopped taking them was the fishy aftertaste. The main reasons I am loving The Restored Triple Strength Omega-3 is I have seen a few improvements in myself since I started taking the supplements.
I have noticed that my nails are no longer brittle, less dandruff and whilst I can not definitively attribute these improvements to the supplements, taking these supplements is the only change I have made to my updated routine. Many people who have taken these supplements have mentioned an improvement on their skin and nails.
Choose Healthy Snacks
Those who know me know I am the biggest snacker ever and it took a long time for me to change my snacking ways. Whenever I am home or travelling I made a point of snacking on ‘healthier’ snacks and those with little to no processed sugar. I mentioned recently that not all sugar is bad for you and this has helped me when it came to choosing which snacks I should take with me when I travel.
Dress For Every Weather
Whilst dressing for the weather might not seem like a ‘healthy’ tip, in fact it is, because it affects your overall health. I can count how many times I was under dressed for a destination and came back home with a cold or worse. As the weather starts to become colder, it makes sense to ensure you dress accordingly.
Carry Wipes
Whilst I wouldn’t consider myself a germaphobic, I do have a thing about avoid areas that are commonly infested with gems. I carry water wipes whenever I am travelling to ensure I clean up places I want to touch or use. Carrying wipes is not only
Take Measured Rest
As an insomniac, there is nothing I love more than sleep, sleep is vital to good mental and physical health. Whenever I am travelling, I make a point of taking measured rest, I am naturally an early riser and enjoy naps during the day when I can. Sleep not only reduces stress, but it also helps maintain your weight as well as lowers your blood pressure.
And there you have, 7 simple tips to ensure I stay healthy when travelling and not only then but at home too. Most people struggle with staying healthy when travelling because the quickest and easier snacks are often unhealthy junk foods. It took me a long time to have the discipline to avoid unhealthy foods and instead prepare or purchase healthier options.
To my fellow travellers, what are some of your tips that you utilise to stay healthy when travelling? Do you take supplements?
