Windsor Castle is the official home of the British Royal Family and is located west of London. The castle was built in the 11th century by William the conquerer and today it is one of the most visited Royal residences. If you’re planning to take this tour, make sure you don’t carry big bags as there is airport type security to enter the premises. Before we entered the castle, our guide took us on a short walk around Windsor, showed us the pub Prince Harry used to drink at after his tours as a soldier, as well as the tilted house. When you enter the castle grounds, you’re left to your own devices to explore the castle grounds. There is also an opportunity to watch the change of the guards which is an amazing experience.

The Stonehenge is a world-famous prehistoric monument located in Wiltshire thought to have been built over 5000 years ago. Today the Stonehenge is a world heritage site managed by the English Heritage and National Trust, members of these charities can enter for free. The stones are arranged in a circle and each is about 13 feet high and till this day, no one knows why they were erected.

After we left Windsor Castle, we drove towards the Stonehenge which is about 2 hours away driving and less on the trains. The London to Stonehenge tour consists of getting the express bus to the stones, walking around the stones and learning about what is surmised about the Stonehenge. On every occasion that I have visited the Stonehenge, the weather has always been peculiar, so I would bring a coat even during summer.

Bath is the largest city in the county of Somerset and is located in the southwest region of England. The city is famous for the Roman baths and the Bath Abbey, it is a city that combines contemporary culture with a rich history and heritage. Having visited Bath on a number of occasions, I was excited for the tour with City Wonders. And whilst I learnt a few things about Bath on this visit, I was expecting a more extensive tour of the city.

When we left the Stonehenge, we were completely soaked to the bone thanks to the weird British weather. Having the luxury of a warm tour bus coaching us from one destination to the next, it was highly appreciated. The drive from the Stonehenge to Bath took just under 3 hours, during the drive our guide explained the history of the city. When we were in Bath, our guide showed us the oldest house in Bath which is Sally Lunn’s eating house.

Our all-day tour with City Wonders ended in Bath, as a local I was impressed by the tour and how knowledgeable our guide was. We were able to visit 3 of England’s most important landmarks 2 of which are UNESCO world heritage sites {Stonehenge & city of Bath}. What I found to be different between City Wonders and other tour companies is that you are also given free time to explore places of interest to you.

In Windsor we were encouraged to visit both the castle and walk around the village, at the Stonehenge, we had a chance to explore not only the stones but the museum too. When we arrived in Bath, we had over 2 hours to explore the city on our own which was truly appreciated. Even though this all-day tour is a guided tour, I loved that we had room to do our own thing.
