As a frequent traveller, there is nothing I love more than sharing the hidden gems near my home in the Cotswold. For those thinking of visiting the Cotswold village of Chipping Sodbury, I have put this simple guide together of things to do in and around this small village. The Cotswold village of Chipping Sodbury is a market town located in South Gloucestershire South-west of England. The town of Chipping Sodbury was founded in the 12th century by William Crassus and is an hour drive from Oxford.
Like Chipping Norton, the name ‘Chipping’ implies that the city once had a long market street in medieval times. Today, the long market street is called Broad street and is lined with beautiful historic buildings that today serve as shops, restaurants and cafes but retain most of their original features. One of the shops I want to introduce you to is Bailey of Bristol a company with 70 years of motorhome and caravan manufacturing with branches all across the UK including Gloucestershire’s Chipping Sodbury.

The Cotswold Village of Chipping Sodbury
Living in the Cotswold in the Oxfordshire countryside, I am fortunate to be surrounded by absolute beauty. At the beginning of the year, I made a decision to explore more of the hidden gems in my neck of the woods. I have been able to visit a lot more places and though we only made a pit stop in Chipping Sodbury on our way to South Devon, I am glad we did as its a pretty little town.
The village of Chipping Sodbury is small enough that you can explore the entire parish within a day, during our visit in checked out the church of St. John and another St. John Baptise church in Old Sodbury. It was nice just walking around the town include old Sodbury and took our sweet time. The Coffee Bean is a great place to enjoy a nice cuppa and cake.
Bailey of Bristol
Started in 1947, Martin Bailey built his first Caravan in his backyard, 70 years later, the company is one of the best manufacturers of caravans in the UK. In 2012, HRH The Queen visited the plant and received a guided tour with the Duke of Edinburgh. Today the plan employs over 500 local people across three Bristol sites and manufactures various types of motorhomes.

I have always wondered what the word Chipping meant in relation to a town name! We really would like to explore the Cotswolds more.

We had a Bailey touring caravan … was close to tears when we sold it as we had some amazing holidays in it. And yes we visited the Cotswolds too!

Looks like a very pretty village. I travelled around the US in a motorhome and would love to do the same in the UK
