Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing 🤨
1988 - 9 months, (Chililabombwe, Zambia) although my mother looks tired and traumatised😟, I know I was loved and happy.

The Ultimate Family Christmas Gift Guide 2019

PR Sample

Within a few short days it will be Christmas and I decided to share our ultimate Family Christmas gift guide for 2019. In our family, we celebrate Christmas a little different to other families, every Christmas morning we dress up in our Sunday best and head to church for the service. Then after, we fellowship with the congregation before we part ways to our various homes and cook the Christmas lunch.

Presents don’t often feature in our family Christmas because being together is more than enough for us but that does not mean we don’t buy each other little somethings. In our home, there are no lists made for the kind of presents we want rather we let the person decide what they want to give. It could be anything for a nice handmade card, to an experience but whatever it is, we believe in it being practical.

Practical gifts can be anything from new school shoes to a new winter coat, and this has worked for our family for many years. This year, I am sitting down with my mum and to decide what practical items should make our ultimate family Christmas gift guide this year. I know for my father, he needs a new cashmere jumper or two, socks and shaving machine.

With Christmas only a week to go, there is no better time to start getting those last-minute gifts for the special people in your life than now.  Every year I have the best intentions of buying the perfect gifts months in advance but that never seems to happen, and it seems this year is no different.

The Ultimate Family Christmas Gift Guide 2019

A couple of weeks ago, we shared a Christmas checklist which I had every intention of utilising as I start to purchase presents for friends and family. I am known to be a last-minute gift purchaser and I am not ashamed in the least. This year though, with the help our Christmas checklist, I was hoping to get ahead and hopefully change my habits for the better. But it seems that wanting and doing are two different things but nonetheless, I have compiled our ultimate family Christmas gift guide for 2019.

Every family dynamic is different and though our ultimate family Christmas gift guide will not cater to all family dynamics, it will to most. Our family consists of a new-born, an adolescent and five adults. Each of our family members I am sure it’s the same with you have different needs so finding different practical gifts can be a tough job. This is why in my family; we prefer to ask what someone would like to get within reason and budget. Our ultimate Christmas gift guide for this year will include only affordable items that each family member.

Perfect Christmas Gift for New Mums

When it comes to buying the most perfect and practical Christmas gifts for new mums, you have to think more logically. What is something that they would need the most and probably overlooked when dashing off to have a baby? Its simple things like cooked meals so they can just warm up the food and not having to cooking from scratch. New mums more than anything new support and not judgment, they need a helping hand even when they don’t ask for it and once they have this, they only need a few other things.

  • Gift cards for any shop – especially if they have everything.
  • Nappies – ask them what type they intend to use, reusable or disposable?
  • Bibs – new-borns always seem to be in constant need of bibs.
  • *Travel Cot – especially around the holidays were families will be travelling to see other family members, we recommend a brand that we trust, Maxi Cosi.
  • Travel Bag – Another essential items not only when travelling to visit family but even just down the road.
  • Baby Bottles – whether the new mum intends to breastfeed exclusively, bottoms will come in handy at a later time.
  • Changing Mats – Very essential, there is nothing like not having your own changing mat and have to use to publicly available ones.

There are many items that I am sure new mums would appreciate but support, a helping hand and cooked food would be very helpful. Also give them room and time to enjoy being new parents and just allow them time to adore their new bundle of joy.

Perfect Christmas Gift for the Adolescent

When it comes to buying gifts for adolescents, it can be a very tricky situation as we know they change their minds regularly. Something that they super loved and wanted forever is no longer something they want anymore. It is therefore safer to be on a more practical side by buying items that they have been showing interest in lately, latest toys even and educational items. We’ve compiled a small list of what our adolescent has been loving lately

  • New bike – he has finally outgrown his previous bike and now he has been looking forward to getting a new one
  • Books – this is something we do every year and sometimes even make a Christmas eve box filled with new books that we know he will love
  • Personalised door sign – we don’t know when he changed to wanting so much privacy for a young boy, but he loves a good door sign
  • Personalised clothing – another hit in the house is personalised clothing and we try buy simple items and they personalize them with our embroidery machine.

There are many items that I can list of what our adolescent boy loves but I think high on the list is a visit to Disneyland, this is something we hope to fulfil soon.

The Perfect Christmas Gift for the adults

When it comes to buying gifts for adults even the hard to buy for, it is simple compared to adolescents because for adults there is always something. As I mentioned previously, in our family, we believe in buying practical and useful gifts more especially gifts that can be used beyond Christmas. I have something against someone buying something that is not practical, not needed and can’t be used beyond Christmas. The only exception to the rule is Christmas jumpers and Christmas pyjamas.

With that being said, in our ultimate family Christmas guide 2019, I have included items that I know the adults in my family and possibly yours too will absolutely love. Some of the gifts are pretty simple and intuitive but others are often overlooked and sometimes not given enough.

  • Winter coat – the weather has changed dramatically and there is nothing more practical than a winter coat to keep someone warm for the next 3 months of winter.
  • *Socks – another n brainer gift are socks, the lovely people at society socks sent me a few pairs that I absolutely adore and make for perfect stocking fillers.
  • *Lingerie – every Christmas I treat myself to a new set of lingerie and this year is no different, thanks to Tutti Rouge for their incredible sized and well-made bras.
  • *Home décor – there is something about buying home décor for the holidays to bring your home into the festive period. But I also think it’s important to pick items you will keep beyond Christmas and won’t look out of place any time of the year. Photowall makes some incredible wall art to match every room.

More than anything the perfect gift that you can give your family is your precious time, the time that you spend together creating memories. I always make a point of dedicated my time wisely and spending it with my family then close friends and also, I allocate time to be alone. Sometimes we forget our stressful Christmas can be and we neglect our own health which is not good, I encourage you to prioritise your health and overall wellbeing.

Happy Holidays!
