The Bailiwick of Jersey is the largest island in the channel islands with an enviable climate compared to mainland UK making it the perfect summer destination. Having visited Jersey at the beginning of summer, I can definitely recommend Jersey as the perfect summer destination. During the summer months, you can enjoy alfresco dining, sunbathing on gorgeous sandy beaches, sampling the local wine and dig into the island’s history.
Summer is the most expensive time of the year to travel and for most families, it is the only time the entire family can enjoy a vacation. On the UK mainland, everyone knows how expensive it is even for a small family to enjoy a decent but affordable vacation. Often, it is cheaper to travel abroad to perfect summer destinations like Spain than vacationing within the UK. It is for this reason I want to recommend Jersey as the perfect summer destination.

Things to consider when searching for a perfect summer destination
Travelling during the summer holidays can be one of the most stressful and chaotic time of the year for many families. Everyone wants to go away for a summer vacation to relax, unwind and recharge before back to school begins. But if you’re not careful, summer can be one of the most stressful time for most families especially when you’re not prepared. This is why we have come up with a few things to consider when searching for the perfect summer destination.
- Distance – this might seem obvious but I will state it anyway, travelling with kids can be tiring at best so make sure you consider the distance to the destination. Bin trapped in a tin can for hours on end is not a fun game for kids, their boredom knows no bounds.
- Destination – whenever I am searching for somewhere to go with the family, I always think about what the destination can offer us and how safe is it. The obvious destinations for families are countries like France, Spain, Portugal and Italy, this is because they have an abundance of family-friendly resorts.
- Does it cater to all – for those with kids of different age ranges, it pays to go somewhere w
h ere everyone will have something they will enjoy. Amusement parks, water kingdoms, zoos, museums and aquariums often have something for everyone to enjoy.
Bailiwick of Jersey – Summer Destination
The Island of Jersey is part of the British Isles and is located between England and France with easy access between the two. What I love about Jersey is that it has attractions to suit everyone even the moody teenager will find something fun to do. The island has many sandy beaches for the kids to play on, alfresco dining available across the island for the parents and a trip down memory lane for the family.
For families that are looking for somewhere to go for the summer holidays that is not too far and isn’t overly expensive the I recommend the channel island of Jersey. Unlike the UK, the island has better weather and it is sunnier more days than it is rainy plus the island is so small it can be explored within a few days. Thanks to its close proximity to France, there are many day trips that can be enjoyed when you visit this gorgeous island.

Things to do the channel Island of Jersey
Having spent three glorious days on the island, I highly recommend hiring a car to explore the gorgeous island. Public transport is frequent enough during summer but because the island has so much to offer, we recommend hiring a car. As mentioned already Jersey has lots to offer the entire family and the following is what we recommend.
Wine Tasting at La Mare
For the adults that want somewhere to relax other than the beach, we recommend wine tasting at La Mare. This vineyard makes white, red and rose wines as well as ciders and gins, during the tour we managed to sample the various wines and the gin. The tour is family

Dig into the history
Prior to visiting Jersey, I had no clue about the island’s history, it was interesting visiting the WWII tunnels and learning about the German invasion. With no support from mainland UK who left Jersey to fend for itself, the islanders succumbed to demands of the Germans and co-existed for many years. Even if you’re not a history fanatic, visiting the. World war tunnels is a must, you get to learn about the islanders.
Sunbathe on the best beaches
Jersey is such a small island that from anywhere on the island, you’re no more than 5 miles away from the beach. During my recent visit, I stayed in St. Helier and the beach was at the front of our hotel. This was absolutely glorious being able to get up every morning to sunbathe and at night to watch the sunset.

Alfresco Dinning
The Island of Jersey is one that is shaped by the sea, and alfresco dining is second nature to the islanders. One thing that I enjoyed the most visiting the island was alfresco dining. There is nothing like enjoying your meal whilst looking out onto the sea.
Whatever you’re looking for in a summer destination, I can guarantee Jersey has it on offer. There were times I felt like I was back in Bali sat on the beach soaking up the sun and people watching. If you’re looking for a last-minute summer vacation spot then I recommend Jersey.

We recently added Jersey to our travel wishlist, largely for the reasons you’ve mentioned! Travelling with kids is tough and staying closer to home while enjoying a slightly warmer climate is ideal
