The Waddesdon Manor has been in the Rothschild family since it was purchased around 1873. Last November {2017} I had the opportunity to explore the estate with my sister. It was such an incredible place to explore, the weather was not perfect but the atmosphere was. One thing I never got to do was enter the inside of the manor and I really wanted to. I made it my mission to return to the Waddesdon Manor and enter the house.
Last weekend I took it upon myself to take my friend to visit the house and invited my sister. As we are both National Trust members, we were able to enter the house for free. Non-members have to pay £22 to visit the house and grounds then £11 just for the grounds. I must say that the estate grounds are super impressive you wouldn’t regret paying the fee. I don’t know much about *landscaping of an estate but it must take a lot of work.
Local Adventures: The Waddesdon Manor
Waddesdon Manor was opened to the public in 1959 two years after the death of James de Rothschild. He left the manor and its content to the National Trust but it is managed by the Rothschild Foundation. You can read all about our initial article on The Waddesdon Manor when we visited last year.
What I found truly fascinating are the family history of the Rothschild family and the impressive collection. I would consider myself someone who’s interested in fine china but their special room with china had me jealous. The entire decor of the interior is outstanding, the family collected a lot of artwork, it’s truly marvellous.
What I loved: Modern & Contemporary Art
I think of all their collection, my utmost favourite items were modern and contemporary art. Again I am no art fanatic but even I found some pieces absolutely provocative. I found myself definitely mesmerised about the pieces and had to snap a few pictures.
There is a lot more to the Waddesdon Manor than a beautiful estate, the history alone is enough to visit. If you’re a National Trust member, definitely make your way there as it’s a must-visit. But even if you’re not, you can visit whenever you feel like it and learn about the incredible family.

We don’t have a membership but I do have an Art Fund membership which allows me free membership to a number of English Heritage and National Trust properties – any property which has a piece of Art Fund funded art essentially. Where is Waddesdon Manor…it looks beautiful and for some reason the name seems familiar.
