Think Safety this Christmas

think safety this christmasThink Safety this Christmas

As Christmas Day draws near we are all busy trying to do the last-minute shopping for presents and food. But how many of us in this madness of the festive period are also thinking about the safety of our homes? Sometimes we get so carried away with what’s to come we forget to think Safety this Christmas.

We want to have memorable Christmases for the right reasons, not that’s the Christmas when the thief stole the presents. Don’t get caught out because you didn’t think Safety this Christmas. As much as we would love to only focus on the joys of the festive period, remember it’s also an opportunist time.

*Chill Insurance have put together this infographic of the survey they conducted on Irish homeowners about common safety problems in winter. An astonishing 63% said they secure their homes during the festive period which is great but this number could improve with a few simple tips.

Tips for securing your home this Christmas

  • Ensure all doors and windows are locked before you leave your house
  • If you’re traveling and leaving your home unattended then leave a light on. This gives the illusion someone is home.
  • To be even more cautious after family or close friends to check up on your place.
  • Make sure you have insurance for the building as well as the contents.
  • Keep variables out of sight by closing the curtains and blinds in your home.
  • Have an alarm system and/or a security camera too.

Safety is not the only concern we have to think about during the cold months of winter. When was the last time you had your boiler checked? A few weeks back my boiler started playing baggers but luckily my landlord had the boiler man over the next day. He was real handy and showed me how to check out boiler, heaters and how to release pressure. This is not a problem you want to be facing as the weather gets colder and colder. Make sure you have your boiler serviced so it doesn’t have a high chance of packing it in during your precious moments.

How are you going to ensure that you think Safety this Christmas? Are you traveling for the holidays or staying home?

Merry Christmas xoxo

Safety is so important around this time of year. It’s been SO icy round by us so it’s terrible for driving. x

It’s funny because someone the car of someone I went to school with was stolen this morning! You wouldn’t think people could be so cruel around Christmas time but I guess people are caught unawares.

So many good points to consider here. You don’t want to lose everything to fire because of an electrical problem with your lighting, or have a break-in because you haven’t secured your home while you are away. Also always a good idea to check your heating system every year at the beginning of the season.
