Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing 🤨
1988 - 9 months, (Chililabombwe, Zambia) although my mother looks tired and traumatised😟, I know I was loved and happy.

Tips to Elevate Your Living Room Aesthetic

When you think about transforming your living room into a space that feels inviting, warm, and visually appealing, colour plays a crucial role. Embracing warm, earthy colour palettes is one simple yet effective way to set the right mood. Tones like rich terracotta, deep mustard, or soft olive greens bring a sense of calm and grounding to any space. They remind us of nature’s beauty, making your living room feel more connected to the environment. The subtle, comforting hues create an atmosphere where you can unwind, entertain, or simply enjoy a quiet moment. When paired with the right textures and elements, these colours will take your living room aesthetic to the next level.

Sculptural light fixtures

Lighting can do wonders for setting the mood and enhancing your living room aesthetic. Instead of going for basic, standard fixtures, think about choosing sculptural light pieces that add artistic value to the room. These light fixtures can serve as both functional and decorative elements, becoming focal points that draw attention without overpowering the space. Consider a floor lamp or maybe even a chandelier. Not only will these lights brighten up the room, but their design will also spark conversations and elevate the overall feel of your space. The beauty of sculptural lighting is that it works in almost any style, whether you’re after something minimalist or a little more eclectic.

Multifunctional furniture

If you’re looking to maximise space while keeping your living room stylish, multifunctional furniture is key. Think about investing in pieces that serve more than one purpose, like a coffee table with built-in storage or a sofa that can transform into a guest bed. Another great option to consider is fitted furniture to optimise storage and keep the room looking sleek and tidy. You’ll save space while maintaining a clean aesthetic, which is particularly useful if you’re working with a smaller space. These smart, functional pieces not only serve practical needs but also contribute to an overall design that feels both organised and chic.

Biophilic design elements

To make your living room feel truly alive, incorporate biophilic design elements that connect you to nature. Adding plants can quite literally breathe life into your space, creating a refreshing atmosphere. You could also experiment with natural materials like wooden furniture, stone accents, or linen textiles. These elements bring a sense of serenity and help create a balanced, inviting environment. The benefits of biophilic design are more than just aesthetic; they help improve air quality and reduce stress. So, it’s time to let nature’s calmness infuse your space.

Elevating your living room doesn’t require an entire overhaul. By choosing the right elements like warm, earthy colours, sculptural lighting, multifunctional furniture, and natural design touches, you’ll create a space that feels both stylish and comfortable. Your living room will become more than just a room and instead, a place you long to spend time in.
