Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing 🤨
1988 - 9 months, (Chililabombwe, Zambia) although my mother looks tired and traumatised😟, I know I was loved and happy.

Invest in Basics

Having good quality, well-fitting basics can completely transform your style. Make sure you have the perfect pair of jeans, a crisp white oversized shirt and a selection of plain t-shirts, that are the base of so many fashionable outfits. When paired with the right accessories, these understated pieces can give you a truly stylish look with minimal effort. You’ll be on your way to looking like a true fashion “it-girl”.

Fashion Hacks

Find a good tailor

If there are items in your wardrobe that you love but they just don’t fit properly, finding a good tailor is essential to giving these loved pieces a new lease of life. Once tailored, they will become your go-to garments that make you look and feel great! Getting an item of high-street clothing tailored can instantly give it a high-end feel, so if you don’t want to spend too much on a blazer, getting it fitted to your shape will ensure it becomes a staple piece you’ll wear again and again.

Don’t underestimate the power of red lipstick

Applying a pop of bright red lipstick can completely transform any outfit – it’s a must-have for a desk-to-dinner look. To find your perfect shade of red, head to your favourite cosmetics brand and ask the make-up artist to find a shade that suits your skin tone. Keep this in your handbag at all times for an instant style update.

Make your jeans last

To preserve your favourite jeans, instead of throwing them in the washing machine, put them in the freezer overnight. This will preserve the fit and colour while getting rid of any bacteria. For any stains simply get them out by hand with a damp cloth and some washing detergent.

Have regular clothing clear-outs

It’s good to make a habit of going through your clothes each season to refresh your wardrobe. If there are pieces that you no longer wear, then it’s time to say goodbye to them! Evaluate all your clothes individually to decide whether to keep, donate, recycle or tailor them. This will help you highlight clothes that you need and to avoid impulse purchases that you don’t!

An outfit is never without accessories

Adding unique jewellery, an understated belt or statement sunglasses can turn a basic outfit into an effortlessly stylish one. The key to accessorising is to not go over the top. If you’re wearing a pair of statement earrings, tone down the rest of your jewellery so that one piece can really stand out. In the cold weather, layering jewellery over your knitwear adds the perfect finishing detail to your everyday look.

Take care of your hair and nails

You could be wearing the most perfect outfit but if your nails are chipped and your hair is unkempt it will completely ruin your look. Spending time on your hair and nails will make you feel ready to take on the world!

Wear in your new pair of shoes quicker

Wearing in a brand-new pair of shoes can be painful and put you off wearing them altogether. To soften them up, simply wear them with you thickest pair of socks and use a hairdryer to heat the areas that you need to make more supple. Your new shoes will be comfortable and ready to wear in no time!

A wardrobe essential: The LBD

A little black dress is a must-have for your wardrobe. You can dress it up with a killer pair of heels and statement accessories for a night out, or make it casual in the day by layering it over a shirt or t-shirt. They are flattering, versatile and give you a classically stylish look that will never go out of fashion.

Get inspired

Follow Instagram accounts of the people who have the style you aspire for. It will give you new ideas on how to wear your favourite pieces and you will discover new ways to shape your own personal style.

These are so simple but so so important! Especially the hair and nails one – I am so bad with it! Actually I always think since my outfit looks great I skip the hair wash for a day but it totally brings down the outfit itself. Thanks for that reminder!
