An estimated 20,000 participants and spectators joined the Virgin Sport Oxford Half Marathon for the second year running last weekend. And we are excited to announce we participated as runner/spectator with my sister running her second Oxford Half Marathon. The atmosphere was electrifying, every eager to run their best time as well as local school children joining in the fun.
Last year was our first year participating in the Virgin Sport Oxford Half Marathon not only as influencers but as runners too. This year as a spectator, I got to witness the fastest male(Ben Cole) and female (Sarah Van Der Wielen) runners. We are excited for next year where we hope to participate again. If you can’t wait a whole year, start preparing for the Hackney May 2019 half marathon also hosted by Virgin Sport.
Virgin Sport Oxford Half Marathon
The Virgin Sport Oxford Half Marathon, presented by ASICS with over 8,600 runners in the most picturesque city. As you run the 13.1-mile course, you’re great by the best views the city has to offer. One of the best things I love about the Oxford Half Marathon is the various local charities that join in. Not only that, but children from the local schools also participate after preparation months in advance of the race.
For those of us who were left at the Sports villages, we check various brands and sample some foods. The sports village was much quieter than earlier when it was buzzing. When the marathon was over, everyone has a virgin sport bag with from snacks to restore energy lost.
Virgin Sport Press Release
“Thank you to everyone that joined us to make this a record-breaking Oxford Half Marathon! We had over 11,500 registered runners, double the charity places, and thousands of spectators all supported by the vendors and local businesses in the bustling hub of our Race Village! The community spirit in Oxfordshire makes today a very special event in our events calendar. We look forward to seeing you at the HackneyHalf Marathon on Sunday 19th May 2019 and Oxford Half in October.” – Jessica Frey, Virgin Sport General Manager.

Well done your sister! We traveled to New York several years ago to watch a dear friend of mine run the marathon. It was quite an experience x

You’re so impressive! I would really like to do at least a half marathon one day but I have a long way to go training-wise first!

I’m certainly not a runner but I’ve got friends who love running marathons and half marathons. We only live just down the road from oxford but were away when it was on this year

I don’t do running but I’ve always been fascinated by marathons. This December I will be helping as a volunteer for a marathon but not running lol. It looks like a great time though and getting to sample different food is always a plus 🙂

A lovely place to run around 🙂 Well done to your sister. I used to visit Oxford often when I was younger as I lived near there. This has reminded me I need to go back.

I did the Robin Hood half marathon in Nottingham last year and it was awesome. I really need to get my fitness back up and do some more. The Oxford half sounds fab, I’d love to come down and do it next year x
