Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing 🤨
1988 - 9 months, (Chililabombwe, Zambia) although my mother looks tired and traumatised😟, I know I was loved and happy.

Ways the Fashion Industry Is Becoming More Sustainable

Corporations across the world have been researching ways to reduce their carbon footprint and help the planet. This is applicable to businesses that design the latest and greatest garments as well. From reusing fabric for new styles to taking their universe online, these icons are making the Earth beautiful as well as a safe place to live. Here are a few ways that the fashion industry is becoming more sustainable.

Utilizing Materials That Are Environmentally Friendly

One method that the fashion industry is using to become more sustainable is to work more environmentally friendly materials into their designs. They research fabrics that are plant based versus synthetic and find ways to create fun, stylish garments from them. They are also finding ways to develop products that omit animals in their development. Companies such as Dolce & Gabbana have moved away from incorporating furs in what they make, which is a significant benefit to the ecosystem. Extensive research into how textiles are constructed and the process that they are manufactured from gives the fashion icons on the market the advantage as they establish new lines that will enhance any wardrobe while helping the planet.

Using Technology To Showcase New Fashions

Designers can exhibit their new creations before they see a stitch or produce a line of clothing. Using the metaverse, Dolce & Gabbana have developed an online world where a consumer can witness the latest fashion worn by digital models. They can analyze what something would look like on their body type by dressing their personal avatar in it. They can purchase the virtual item then, if they really want the physical product, they can have them sent. The company has hosted shows that allow any of their fans to attend instead of those that have a special invite or have credentials in the fashion world. They are also offering different levels of membership that allows exclusivity to special parties or one on one meetings with the most influential people in the company. In doing this, the group protects the environment by reducing the amount of garments produced as well as cutting down on the carbon emissions that occur when people travel to the events. They can reach a new fan base and grow their online universe using this method.

Utilizing Technology to Deliver Final Products

Another option that fashion icons like Dolce & Gabbana are using is digitization. They are offering their final products on websites, where consumers can easily shop for what they want from the comfort of their homes. Shipping an item of two takes less fossil fuel than If a large truck and the shopper’s car traveled to the store to purchase the same garment. This can also be utilized in the warehouse of these experts as well. Computerizing the process from production to the moment it departs allows staff members to track what materials the article was made of and what part of the world it came from.

Producing Durable Clothing In Shorter Runs

There are many amazing designs released by Dolce & Gabbana each year. However, to increase their responsibility to the planet, consumers may see less each season. The trend is to manufacture garments that are stronger and last longer, eliminating the need for excess shopping or the volume of clothes that are never worn. This cuts down on the energy that is used to produce the outfits and send them out to the customers. When this is done, there can be small runs of each item. The draw on utilities and resources that are used to construct the merchandise will be reduced, which benefits the environment as well.

Utilize Every Remnant Available

A new piece of material may be less than necessary on some occasions when building a garment. For small adornments or pockets, fashion organizations are recycling scraps from projects that they had previously worked on. This prevents those tiny portions from being thrown out and taking up space in the landfill. The textile can come from the remnant of a bolt or by recycling a discarded piece of apparel. They can serve an additional purpose and have a second chance to be the next great design from Dolce and Gabbana. It is also cost effective for the organization since they can order less material to replenish what was used.

Making the fashion industry more sustainable will definitely pose major challenges but it is good to know that stakeholders are doing their part to make the industry more Earth-friendly. It might be a difficult task but they will get there, one fabric, one accessory at a time.

I love when I got to a store and look at an article of clothing and it has the little tag that says its made from recycled plastic bottles. That is so FREAKIN amazing. It seems like Dolce & Gabbana are doing a lot to move into the sustainable fashion. More brands should follow suit.
