Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing 🤨
1988 - 9 months, (Chililabombwe, Zambia) although my mother looks tired and traumatised😟, I know I was loved and happy.

What I Actually Keep on my Night Stand

With Spring in the air, I thought I share what I actually keep on my night stand especially as I have been slowly but surely declutter my home and spring cleaning. I don’t know about you but I am the type that prefers to have a clutter free night stand and don’t keep items on it just because they look cute. Everything on my night stand has a use from the night stand lamp to the vitamins I keep handy. I like to think of myself as a minimalist but not in all areas of my home because sometimes I don’t even know where the junk I accumulate comes from and this is why I declutter my home every 6-weeks to keep the house less messy.

In a few short days it will be a whole year since I bought my first property aka my home and I am grateful for this opportunity and still in shock that it’s almost a year already. I was one of the lucky ones who was able to collect the keys to my new home just as lockdown #1 was being announced. This meant I couldn’t hire moving companies and I had to drive back and forth to haul all my stuff from my rented apartment to my current home. Thankfully I wasn’t alone, my sister was around to help me and after 48-hours of driving back and forth, I was able to move into my house. This got me thinking about what I actually keep on my night stand ever since I first moved out from my parents house and realised for my night stand, I have always preferred less clutter.

With Spring in the air, I thought I share what I actually keep on my night stand especially as I have been slowly but surely declutter my home and spring cleaning. I don't know about you but I am the type that prefers to have a clutter free night stand and don't keep items on it just because they look cute. Everything on my night stand has a use from the night stand lamp to the vitamins I keep handy.

What I Actually Keep on my Night Stand

Although I am not a clean freak, I do have certain specifications when it comes to my home especially my living room, bedroom and kitchen. For my bedroom, I am always seeking more space than I have, I don’t like clutter and love having everything tucked away in some drawer or closet. I loving enough room around my bed so I can move around freely and don’t go bumping into anything at night. This is why I am excited to say what I actually keep on my night standard and I can assure you, its nothing spectacular.

Side Table Lamp – from Habitat

When it comes to bedside lamps, I enjoy a variety from dimmed lighting to the brightest lights you can find. When I bought this lamp shade from Habitat I used it once and moved it to another room because it was too bright but actually for my needs it was perfect, I just got used to dimmed lighting. What I love about this lamp is that its simple in style but works perfectly for my bedroom.

Multivitamins and Medication

I don’t know about you but I take multivitamins every single day but I am also someone who needs to have them in sight otherwise I will forget to take them. It is the same thing for any medications that I need to take daily, it has to be somewhere I visit every single day and has to be within my reach for me to remember to take it. For multivitamins I keep them on my bedside table and reach for them every single morning.

Charging Port for apple devices

This is something that made an appearance about 2 years ago, normally I don’t charge my devices in my room and keep them in another room. When I was renting my last property, I made a point of charging my phone downstairs to stop me from checking my phone constantly. Then in recent years I thought it wise to charge my phone within reach at all times. Instead of having a mired of wires in my room, I have one where I am able to charge three devices at once and I love it. The apple version was too expensive so I often for a much cheaper version from Amazon which I love.

Books I am reading

When it comes to books, I am notorious for reading more than one book at a time so my night stand can get a little crowded when I am in those moods. But of late I am trading my night stand for my dresser where I keep my books if I am reading more than one at a time. At the moment I am reading three books: Dave Ramsay’s Total Money Makeover which I can not wait to share my review and thoughts on this book. Ryan Holliday‘s The Daily Stoic, I read one page a day with various affirmations and Tim Ferris’ The 4-Hour Work Week which is such an interesting read. I love the principles he shares in the book but not sure I am ready to give up my 9-5, I just want to learn how to be more efficient.

And that is all I keep on my night stand, when it comes to the small drawer I have on my side table, I normally keep, a notepad and pen (I get crazy ideas for blogs at night) and my Nintendo game. There are times when I can not sleep and all I can do is pass time so I whip out my Nintendo, play a few games, write something and then sleep. On days when these two don’t work, I either drink a glass of wine (knows me out) or I get my iPad and watch a couple of movies until I do.

What are some of the items that you keep on your side table? Do you prefer to have a clutter free nightstand or do you prefer a lot of items near you?

I keep a bottle of water (or two), my Kindle, a book or two and then my glasses. I am currently reading a crime fiction novel on my Kindle and then two ebooks about blogging on my Gumroad app on my phone so I’ve always got them there.

I do like to have a clutter free bedside table, but we have a shelf just above it which is where I then keep everything I may want handy. It’s mainly some beauty bits like a face mist and hand cream and whatever book I am reading x

That’s a good idea to have a shelf above, that would help with my need to have a couple of things near my bed.

I have all sorts on my night stand. My glasses case, lamp, cup of tea or water, a book, my tv remote, night cleanser, deodorant, foot cream and a little basket with bits and bobs in.

I can so relate to the books. I have 3 on my nightstand right now, and a kindle! I prefer a clean nightstand, but that’s just not practical for real life!

Same here! I also declutter my home every 6-weeks, love clutter-free room ❤️ Great tips, hun! On my night stand, I keep my diffuser lamp, a book and my absolute necessary skincare products like lip balm & hand & feet creams. Also, I’ve heard that as per vaastu (Feng Shui), we should not keep medicines even the water bottle, right beside/below our bed. It makes us weak and unhealthy. So, I keep my medicines and water bottle on the north direction of my room 🙂
