Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing 🤨
1988 - 9 months, (Chililabombwe, Zambia) although my mother looks tired and traumatised😟, I know I was loved and happy.

11 HEALTHY HABITS YOU SHOULD HAVE

At the start of each new month, we are all presented with an opportunity to better ourselves. I personally know that this month I want to be more mindful and adopt these 11 healthy habits. One of my biggest struggles is my sugar addiction and snacking on unhealthy foods all day long.

Whenever a new month begins, I set myself personal goals that are both short term and long term. This month, I want to set goals that support healthier wellbeing, this is why I want to adopt these 11 healthy habits in my life. I am hoping to live a healthier life especially with the many trips planned.

11 HEALTHY HABITS

11 HEALTHY HABITS YOU SHOULD HAVE

Everyone wants to be healthier and a better version of themselves, this differs for everyone. Whilst for me it might be losing a few pounds, for others, it might be accepting themselves mentally. We all have inner battles and those battles differ per person, for me, I want to conquer those battles by using these 11 healthy habits taking small steps at a time.

For those who like me want to make small but impactful changes in their lives, then I hope this post will be helpful. I hope you can foster these 11 healthy habits in your lives for a better you.

Breakfast is an important meal of the day

Working 9-5 I often struggle with eating breakfast at home and often prefer to eat at the office. In hopes of saving money, I often make overnight oats which are my favourite type of breakfast. On days that I am working from home, I do enjoy cooking a full English breakfast. The important thing for me this month is to remember to have breakfast as it fuels the rest of the day.

Drink water daily

Those who know me know how much I struggle with drinking water, especially unflavoured water. This will definitely be a test for me but I am hoping to make small changes in my life. Often when I want to drink more water, I walk around with my infuser bottle to make infused water.

Take a walk daily

Now, this is something I struggle with big time especially on days when I work from home. You would think it should be the easiest time but I am a homebody and rarely leave the house unless its for work or an appointment. This is another area of my life I need to work on more, I live in a beautiful area and could do with exploring more of my village.

Exercise at least once a day

I need to define exercising as outside of choreographed classes like body balance I find it hard to motivate myself to exercise. I am much happier attending classes but of late I have struggled with this too but hoping to work on this.

Eat fruits and vegetables daily

Ever since I was young, I have loved eating fruits and vegetables but as I have grown old veggies are not high on my diet. I want to change this and eat more veggies as much as I eat the fruits which I do daily.

Enjoy a restful sleep daily

Another struggle in my life, I, like more people love to sleep but its something that often alludes us. I have shared many tips on enjoying a good night’s sleep but often I forget to follow them. I am hoping I won’t suffer much from jetlag after travelling to and fro the states.

Meditate for at least 5 minutes daily

God knows I need to do this daily, it’s amazing how much of meditating for 5-minutes can do for someone. Just taking a moment to calm the storm in your mind can do wonders for the body. This is something I want to work on more and more in my life.

Take a 5-minute breather daily

As a corporate employee and blogger, I spend over 12 hours a day staring at the computer. Taking 5-minutes away for a breather is important not only for my eyesight but for my general health too. I also get headaches a lot but notice when I take a five minutes breather outside it clears my mind.

Eat healthier meals daily

Because of the travels this month, I will be eating out more than eat home cooked meals. I want to ensure I am choosing healthier meals than my usual fast food choices. When I am home, I am hoping to make more meals at home and batch stock.

Practice Yoga before bed

This is something I have been doing religious and notice it helps me fall asleep quicker and have a more relaxing sleep. There a few 5-minute yoga exercises I do before bed that are truly helpful.

Daily social media detox

This is necessary but also a struggle, as a blogger, I am rarely offline even when on vacation. Vacation time is normally blogging time full-time but I want to practice a few hours a day of social media detox.

I’ve started doing most of these things and I do feel so much better. I might try my hand at meditating.

I don’t do things like yoga or meditation as it’s just not for me. But getting a good nights sleep, walking and drinking water are so important x

Great tips, I either do, or am trying to incorporate all the tips (excepting yoga) into my life. It’s too easy when you’re busy to prioritise other things though! Mich x

I recently (feb) had a gastric sleeve and I’m so trying to get some sort of normal health routine for the 1st time in my life. Great post thanks – plenty to take home and think about.

Yes, some of those are so important! There have been times I didn’t let myself get enough sleep and it makes you not feel well if you do that for too long.
