Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing 🤨
1988 - 9 months, (Chililabombwe, Zambia) although my mother looks tired and traumatised😟, I know I was loved and happy.

2024 Travel Bucket List

As twenty-twenty three comes to a close, I thought I share my 2024 travel bucket list that I curated during my trip to Mauritius last month. Every year, I make a point of going somewhere I have never been before and 2024 will be no different. The 2024 travel bucket list that I have curated and already started booking is one that I am most excited about. As someone who has been solo travelling since 2016, I am excited to plan solo trips but also group trips with my best girls especially as this year we travelled more than the entire 14+ years we’ve known each other.

There are so many wonderful places that I would love to visit but for the upcoming year, I am focusing on those that have been on my travel bucket list for the longest. I very much know that travelling is a privilege which I do not take for granted and I am grateful to be in a position where I am able to travel every single month. Growing up, I never had much opportunity to travel places because for most holidays, the extended family came to our house, we were the ‘family destination’ of choice. As soon as I was financially able to afford travel on top on paying all my own bills, I embarked on a beautiful journey.

2024 Travel Bucket List

Last month as I was busy enjoying the sunshine on the island of Mauritius, I started thinking of all the places I wanted to visit in the new year and my 2024 travel bucket list was born. I am someone who loves to plan in advance but I also live for spontaneity which you wouldn’t know if I didn’t say it myself. All my travel buddies know, I am not someone to tease with ‘do you wanna go…’ because best believe I am already booking that flight before you even get a chance to have you PTO approved.

Every year, go someplace you’ve never been before

Dalai lama

The places I am listing below and those I have never been to before because for 2024, I plan is to explore more places I have never been. For those who know me, they know I love repeating destinations especially European destinations as there is always something I want to see again or experience. For the upcoming year, I am focusing on destinations that are both far flung and a couple that are near me.

Singapore and Malaysia

I am combining these two destinations because we plan to explore them together, our first destination will be Singapore where we intend to spend 4 days then fly to Malaysia where we plan to spend 5 days. I am super excited for this trip because I get to travel with my best friends and after the travels we’ve done this year, we are excited to embark on more trips together.

Cape Town, South Africa

Although I have been to South Africa before, I only managed to visit Johannesburg because I have family there and I combined a family visit with a vacation. I am excited to visit Cape Town because it has been on my bucket list for the longest time. There are so many wonderful places to explore and I can’t wait to see the safari for myself and enjoy everything South Africa has to offer.

Abu Dhabi, UAE

The United Arabs Emirates (UAE) is another destination I am quite familiar with but I have only visited Dubai and not ventured far out of that city. I love the vibrancy and luxuriousness of the city, it is possible to enjoy *luxury holidays to Dubai on an affordable budget, I have done it many times. But, a few of my travel friends have told I am missing out on the full beauty of the UAE by not having visited Abu Dhabi as of yet and for 2024, I intend to fix just that.

Seychelles

Back in 2021, I visited the glorious islands of The Maldives and I had such an incredible relaxing time there, I made a promise to myself that I would visit the island again plus Mauritius and the Seychelles. This year, I was able to visit Mauritius and now for the next year, I intend to visit the Seychelles as well, this will be my annual ‘relaxing and resetting’ vacation.

Latvia and Estonia

I combine these two destinations as they are the only EU countries that I am yet to visit and I cannot wait to explore them in the new year. I have friends from both these countries so I know what cities I would like to hit up first but I know also they have some absolutely glorious attractions that I have on my bucket list.

Montenegro

For the longest time I had ignored Montenegro because outside of EuroVision, there isn’t much I know about it but I plan to change that in 2024. If I manage to explore all the other destinations I have listed above and still have vacation days left, I plan to hit up Montenegro.

And there you have it, my 2024 travel bucket list that I cannot wait to fulfil in the new year. What destinations do you have on your bucket list that you were thinking of exploring in the new year?
