Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing 🤨
1988 - 9 months, (Chililabombwe, Zambia) although my mother looks tired and traumatised😟, I know I was loved and happy.

5 Steps to Make Your Bed Super Comfortable

Most adults spend over half of their life in their bed; getting their 8+ hours of sleep. Either binging on Netflix boxsets in bed on a cosy Sunday or lying wide awake waiting for the alarm goes off. Others spend hours in bed using various technological devices and some reading books.

We spend so much time in bed, it is important to ensure we don’t settle for a bed that is just average. Instead, ensure that you choose the comfiest bed that it could most possibly be. Often when I am shopping for mattresses, I am after a hotel luxury kind of bed.

5 Steps to Make Your Bed Super Comfortable

In this article, we put together 5 steps on how you can really get the most from your bed and make it comfier than it has ever been before:

Two Single Mattresses

Of course, if you’re sleeping alone, a double mattress is great, as it means you can starfish without getting told that you’re ‘taking up the whole bed’ by a partner (story of my life). However, if you sleep with someone else, then the best thing to do would be to invest in two single mattresses, rather than one double.

Let’s look at it this way: say you find a size 5 pair of shoes that you personally think are the comfiest things that you’ve ever worn. Your size 10 partner, however, would probably disagree and exclaim that they aren’t as comfortable. The same goes for mattresses – one mattress doesn’t suit all, which is why there are so many different spring counts and firmness levels that some may prefer in comparison to others.

Two single mattresses will mean that each party are able to select their own mattress based on their personal comfort levels!

make your bed super comfortable

Stock Up on Pillows

Pillows not only look great, as you can add them to any bedroom to add a little more personality, but they are also very comfortable, and can make your comfort levels go from an 8, straight to a 10.

The good thing about pillows is that you can add how ever many you want until it is right for you, as well as being able to move them around the bed and slot them in places that may be beneficial for you.
For example,  a lot of people benefit from having a pillow behind their back if they suffer from back pain and pregnant ladies are also able to purchase pregnancy pillows which are comfier when their tummy gets a little bigger.

Add a Mattress Topper

If you aren’t financially stable to invest in a brand-new mattress and your mattress is potentially the reason for your disturbed sleep at night, then it may be worth considering a mattress topper. These add an extra layer of comfort to a mattress, while also being completely affordable.

Happy Beds sell three mattress toppers that are suitable to different comfortabilities and levels of support.

Thin Duvets and Heated Blankets

Imagine this: it is a surprisingly warm day during winter, and your bed is covered in a thick, winter quilt. You’re too hot if you keep it on, but too cold if you sleep with it off – what do you do?

A simple life hack for this is to keep your quilt thin and also invest in a heated blanket that can go under your sheet. This way, you can warm yourself up with that, rather than struggling to find the right temperature through the night.

White and Bright

The reason why a 5* hotel would choose to use white bedding is because it adds brightness to a bedroom, while also being extremely inviting. White sheets will ensure that you wake up feeling positive and in a great mood!

I love the two single mattress idea. I dislike the king size one we currently have, but my husband doesn’t seem to mind. going to pitch this as an idea to him 😉

Great tips, I had never though about the two single mattress idea but I totally get where you are coming from! It probably also stops it from dipping in the middle! We really need to look for a new mattress as ours just isn’t comfy any more.

I had never thought about having two single mattresses together that suit your preferences. That’s so clever! I dream of having crisp, white sheets but for some reason (maybe it’s our two kids) my other other is against the idea of them.

We have a double mattress, but my parents have two singles. They always have had, for as long as I can remember. They swear by it. I do have an extra pillow though, to put between my knees, otherwise I get back pain.

The 2 single mattress thing tickled us pink when we first moved to Sweden, as that is how double beds are done here. However, how you put it does actually make complete sense now and that they are onto something

Heated blankets sound amazing! I’ve not come across these so will have to keep any eye out. I do love a good thick cozy blanket though – they are so comforting in this chilly weather.

I completely agree – a mattress topper can make all the difference. My husband has a memory foam one at his parents house and it is seriously comfortable 🙂
