We live in a fast-paced world, and you may find yourself busier than you prefer. That’s why it’s such a blessing to come home to a nice, calm environment, one where the world outside is washed away. If you aren’t quite there with your home but would like to be, there are a few great tips you can implement into your home decor.
Implement Your Favorite Place
Maybe you feel especially serene spending a day at the beach, relaxing on a boat in the water, or in an open field filled with flowers. Wherever that place may be, try to bring the look, feel and smell of it into your home. Specifically, bring in the color of your favorite calming environment through a new coat of paint, or an accent that reminds you of that location. Use decorations, pictures, and maybe even light fixtures to better invoke this special place.

Get Rid of Clutter
Clutter spilling from tables, desks, floors, baskets, and more could make you feel more stressed than you realize. Go through your house and identify areas of clutter that need to be cleaned and organized. Create a plan for tackling each room and each pile of clutter, making sure you consider how you’ll organize all the clutter and figure out how to prevent it from piling up again in the future. For areas that seem to remain cluttered no matter how much work you put in, such as laundry and mail on the table, set aside 10 minutes once a week to get things sorted out and put away.
Include Calming Smells
Use the power of essential oils to breathe in relaxation. Some oils have specific properties, such as getting rid of noxious odors, increasing focus, freshen the air, and boosting your mood. Do a bit of digging to see which oils have the properties you need to feel invigorated and make your home a sanctuary.
One word of caution when it comes to essential oils: Make sure they’re safe around pets and children. It can help to ask your veterinarian if there are specific oils you shouldn’t diffuse around your pet. You should also be careful about using oils around kids. Their curiosity could lead them to ingesting oil or touching heated oil.

Add Some Houseplants
Make it feel as if you’re walking through nature when you’re at home by adding some houseplants. Not only are plants great for making your home calmer, but they can also provide you with lots of fresh air and scrub the air clean, too. Just like with oils, see which plants are safe for pets and kids if you have either (or both) in your home. It’s also a good idea to study up on the kind of attention certain houseplants need. If you aren’t home much, you may not be able to water your plants as often, and you should also check to see how much sunlight individual plants need, so you know where to position them inside your home.
It doesn’t take too much time or money to turn your home into a zen zone. With a few changes, your home is bound to become the refuge you need and deserve.

We’re currently decluttering at the moment. It’s amazing how much stuff we keep, some of it I’m not sure why we did in the first place. It definitely makes me feel better for each cupboard and drawer we do x
